I've got glass but no gaskets, I'm looking for those as well.

M1078 with 225hp and high speed gears: pro's and con's

I just put a gear set into a truck with 330 hp (C7 engine) and it absolutely flies through all gears uphill, against the wind, etc. What I've read is that 225 hp should be fine but in my opinion the extra 105 hp helps more on the top end. If you can modify your engine to make 290 hp (turbo...

What have you done to your FMTV or LMTV today

Parted out an M1078 this past week that saw better days, trying to use every part of the buffalo if I can. The M1079 box is finally getting a semi-permanent base so I can actually use it and will start piling up all the scrap into the M989A1. I'll be using the regeared M1078A1 to pull the M989A1...

The lack of “don’t buy an FMTV” posts led to this...

It looks good but why didn't you start with an M1088 or M1083? :shrugs: That's what you ended up with..a M1088 with an LMTV bed just for more money/work. There's not many M1086 trucks out there and plenty of the others.

You wont regret it. Also it should make you feel better knowing all the insides are serviced and good to go.

What have you done to your FMTV or LMTV today

Took this M1078A1 out for a spin with the 3.07 "high speed" gears. Top speed was limited to traffic at 69 mph. It really brings it to life!

    Killing while idling.

You're loosing fuel prime/getting air in the system .You say fuel filter but which one? The smaller one on the block or large canister style filter next to the frame? The larger one is your primary and can be tricky to seal. Check the large o-ring on the canister lip to make sure it's sealing...

Behr Paint Code - Home Depot Update 2019

I haven't made paint since this post. Walk them through the usual steps "competitor" -> "Federal Standard" -> color number and if they can't find it they're using the new system. Ask them to use the old one if they still have access to it. As for the HVLP thinning I don't have experience with...

    Killing while idling.

Sounds exactly like air is getting in the fuel system. Trace your hoses and let the truck sit a week and check if it looses fuel prime.

Worth mentioning - Hidden failures of wires that connect to batteries

Was the outer rubber cracked or showing some indication of how the water got in? Any spots in particular that showed the issue internally (at bend or something)? I have a few trucks with various low voltage issues so this intrigues me. One is an 08' so I hope the cable hasn't "expired" in that...

What have you done to your FMTV or LMTV today

Ah yes, "Project Brutus" is on display so I can finally talk about it. I supplied that M1083 w/w (originally) to AM General among a few other things during development. They originally wanted to use an M1084 but went in a different direction when considering reloading for sustained operation...

    M1078A1 -10 Technical Manual

The C7 engine doesn't concern me as much as the electronics in the module based PDP in those trucks. I too have that TM and the 10-1 & 10-2 for the MTVs which mainly cover the 3126 and motherboard based PDP. They all are limited on the trouble shooting for the new style PDP. aua

what cordless tool are you using to get your lug nuts off

Ditto. If it's really stubborn use the gear reduction attachment and it will do the job.

    M1078A1 -10 Technical Manual

Can you list the actual TM #? I have an ETM but it doesn't go into much detail on the C7 despite it referencing it in some sections.

    MRAP Buffalo Trainer

Wes got the truck running with fresh batteries and plumbed it to a 5 gallon jerry can to load it up yesterday. He jumped it at the starter to prevent any electrical issues as the vehicle has been sitting for 5 years outside. I believe it was the right call as there are 12v, 24v, and 120v systems...

    MRAP Buffalo Trainer

For those who haven't heard I've come into possession of a Buffalo MRAP trainer built on an M925A2 chassis. I want this thread to document the unique nature of this machine and updates as I work on it (even if slowly). I felt this should go under the "Heavy Armor" category due to the extensive...

    Baton Rouge - M923 Batteries

It's GSA at the Louisiana Federal Property building. I'd prefer to leave good batteries in it so unloading will be easy. I can guide anyone through the process on an A2. Timeline is sooner the better, 2 week window max (standard GSA limitations). As soon as it's confirmed running I can get it...

    Baton Rouge - M923 Batteries

Is anyone near Baton Rouge that would be willing to get an M923A2 started? It will likely need the usual batteries and fuel prime to get it running. I plan to have it hauled but it needs to drive up onto the trailer. Thanks.
