First thing, the synchro as you can see came out in two pieces HAHA
The next two pics show the end of the main shaft. Almost looks mushroomed out but I’m guessing it’s from wear. I first thought that’s how and where the bearing rides, purposeful, not from wear. But looking at NEW main shaft...
I was able to get the 4/5 synchro out of the transmission without removing from the truck, only after finding my 1-1/2” socket for the nut on the yoke. haha.
More bad news though, after digging deeper for the removal. My main shaft is severely worn where it rides in/on the individual roller...
In my opinion, the simplistic nature of the electrical system for an a2, it would merely just drain your battery/ies. The absolute worst case scenario would be, depending on length of time it was left on, and amount of fuel, it MAY be possible to burn up the in tank pump.(but that could happen...
You would also see no rotation from the lower gear on the hydraulic head. You can check rotation by leaving the fuel shut off cover off. Have someone hit the start button while you watch the gear.
This would also be a good time to check that the plunger is free and moving up and down if you...
I recommend putting the truck in 5th gear, transfer case in neutral, then use the jack shaft to rotate the engine with a pry bar or something equivalent
You could use a multimeter at that coupler and check continuity from there to the tank to check for a broken wire and also a short to ground. Or from there forward you could check for a short to ground.
Maybe probe the wire at the start switch since it’s on the same circuit and check continuity...
Here’s where I ordered mine. Although listed as the brake connectors, it’s also the same plug for the top of the fuel tank.

Maybe the actual plug is bad. I know mine was and I had to get a new one.
Could you maybe try to scratch some insulation off the wire and check for power BEFORE the plug end?
Dang that is cheap! A NOS 4/5 synchro is about $100 to my door! Hell I would buy two transmissions if that’s the case haha
Maybe you meant $1250, not $125. Lol
Well I was stubborn and I told the wife to suit up. I got on my old trusty tractor, and got the deuce in the garage. I didn’t wanna have to put a few things back together to drive it in. Although I needed the tractor regardless pull it backward before going in. Anyways it’s in.
So, in the mean...
Pics…
4/5 synchro is junk. Not sure what else is toast.
The trucks in the driveway and not the garage so that’s all I’m doing tonight, it’s really windy and about 28*f, with out wind chill.
The last pic I carried the top cover into the garage for better light. You can see a very small bend in...
Had some time today so I decided to let my truck stretch its legs on some back country roads by our house. I went around the “block”, which was about 6miles round trip. Problem was on my way back I decided to go into 5th, shifted fine, went about a 1/2 mile crusading at 45mph and then came to...
Here are pics. Again, I am not a gun guy by any means. I’m sure this is probably modern, or for all I know fake. The end of it says “308” “F.C.” “NIM”.
…but, I did find them in the cab so that counts! Haha I bought my truck from a private party who owned it roughly 12yrs. I’m sure all the...
