Ran out of fuel on a HMMWV

Holy Zombie Post Saturday! I found a solution that worked for me. Used this setup after replacing sender/gaskets/fuel lines/stuff. Used ONE CO2 cylinder (PV=nRT), opened the bleed screw atop the filter housing and let ‘her rip. Worked great, truck fired right up after having the fuel system...

    Radio shelf quick releases

Maybe, maybe not. There ARE flatter, smaller knobs. Check out a grainger or MSC catalog, local hardware store (ACE, Tractor supply), the dreaded online auction site or Dr. Evil's Jungle sales site. Lotsa options. Could even use a 1/4-20 flat thumbscrew and washer, I imagine.

    Radio shelf quick releases

There were two 1/4-20 riv-nuts there already for the radio shelf, bought the knobs at Lowes, I think, same with safety pins (2”, although 1-3/4” would work, IIRC). This what you were looking for?

    Wrong Bogert Jack

PM me, I’ll send pictures. I’ll let it go cheap.

    Wrong Bogert Jack

Not quite as bad, but close. Guy who sold it says he thought it was for HMMWV, I didn’t know the difference.

    Wrong Bogert Jack

Gotta figure out what to do with this paperweight first. Thanks for the lead.

    Wrong Bogert Jack

Well, now I’ve gone and done it. Bought a new, unused Bogert jack, advertised for HMMWV. Except it’s not. What I got was this: http://bogertgroup.com/BII/images/88M-MPBMI.pdf Which is for an MRAP. Navistar Defense MaxxPro FOV withDXM Independent Suspension. For Models M1224, M1224A1, M1234...

    Thermostat gasket

I shoulda took pictures. I clamped up a small mill angle plate using the bolt holes and tried sliding feeler gauges underneath. Got 5 thousandths no problem, which is likely w/in margin of tolerance for gasketed surfaces (about twice the thickness of my hair). The new outlet piece I put on a...

    Thermostat gasket

Drip, drip, drip, drip... Couple of weeks ago I noticed coolant dripping - again. Bought up a bunch of constant-torque hose clamps and put ‘em on. Drip, drip, drip, drip... Wiped, everything down, ran truck around for an hour, parked back in garage, SEEMED to be coming from thermostat...

    LMTV or?...

SERIOUSLY? $1/kwh? I'm paying 8.2 cents/kwh here in MD with BGE (yeah, I could change, but with bills under $200/month, not a lot of incentive to change for a couple bucks a month plus I get kickbacks for water heater and AC unit shutdown/control in peak hours). I thought Alaska had endless...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

One of my brothers was one of the NASA Apollo engineers let loose when the program died - got into fixing guitar amplifiers and stuff and never looked back. He was YUGE on a product called "Deoxit" for long-term contact protection. I've bought several bags of the packard connector...

    Doghouse top pin

glad this came up. I replaced one of mine - part from Kascar, I think - and looking at the other, am sure I got the "spring" orientation correct, but NEITHER of them will engage. I even sat down with both feet firmly planted on either side of the twist lock and it still wouldn't go in far...

1993 3L80 Transmission Filter Change (bolt loose to filter) Correct or not?

I don't understand engineers. Hung out with some as an undergrad. Mostly EECS types, but some mechanical and bioengineering types. I - and my friends in the bio sciences - thought they were absolute "grinds," found out they held similar opinions of us in the pre-med fields (chem-bio), but...

    Cooling upgrade system.

Acupuncture. There’s this model we use in modern medicine where a treatment modality is scrutinized by randomized, placebo-controlled trials which are then peer-reviewed, analyzed with statistics methodologies to sort out any confounding variables, trials repeated in larger groups, then...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

That explains a LOT. Sell the chains, it’ll blizzard before you know it. We got about two inches yesterday, dogs played for an hour, took an hour to get the mud off ‘em. I spent time in the garage earlier in the day with “my” dog sleeping inside on the tunnel while I replaced the left side...

    Titling was too easy.

21 years’ association with the US Army (retired), VA, civil service, various other dealings with alphabet agencies has taught me - if you feel like you’re getting over, tell no one, accept it, count your blessings, STFU, basically. Government giveth, government taketh away. Whimsically...

    Slave cable

Thanks. Found several - some in black - added to my wishlists on epay and amazon. I’ll take another look after Christmas.

    Slave cable

I’ve been sitting on a pair of the plugs for a while, wondering how to wrap or otherwise tie the wires together. What’s the name, brand, style, of the braid you used? Thanks. Norm

    Let the fun begin

That 30# is for the older BIAS-ply tires. Newer ones have RADIALS and can go up to 50 psi. Really, read the manual. There are some peculiarities about when and where to use high and low lock and when to shift (idling, engine off, etc). That’s in there somewhere too. Once your rig IS...
