    Let the fun begin

Look underneath your truck at the transfer case (just aft of the transmission). If it has two wires coming off it, it's an NP 242 - i.e., newer model - and the LED should light up in HL or L(lock). Or just put the TC selector in HL and turn on power, it should light up.

    Question about a tool

Ah, yes. You're right. It's been a while since I "played" with it, but I do recall the pulley sliding on. The persistance of decay of memory continues unabated. Thanks.

    Question about a tool

Thanks, Juan. Figured it’d fit the PS pump, still wondering about the alternator pulley.

    55 gallon drum pickup tube

How’s the PVC holding up to Diesel, Stanadyne lubricity formula, biocide and time? D’oh. Never mind. https://www.calpaclab.com/pvc-polyvinyl-chloride-chemical-compatibility-chart/

    Question about a tool

[insert politician, actor or athlete here]... Will be changing out stock 60A alternator for 200A 12/24V system soon(or or later) and bought a spare PS pump (on sale, thought it was a good deal and with a hydraulic winch I intend to get some use out of, probably a good investment) and was...

Strong work. They sure grow on you, don’t they?

Anyone know how to find what GHOK stands for?

Other than a mountain pass in Ghor province in Afghanistan, and the name of some character from World of Warcraft, nothing. Stay tuned though, someone may come along shortly with the right answer.

    White smoke at start up

Dude, if you don’t know the acronyms, you don’t know the language. Actually, it’s idioms, but we’re talking MVs here (Military Vehicles), you know? I have Hagerty insurance coverage and the new monthly magazine had three pages of HF (Harbor Freight - heh heh) coupons. Top left...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Not a “done to” but a “done with”. Took mine out for a little ride this morning to test out the centramatic balancers I’d installed a few days ago. They work great. Think I’ll keep them. Brought truck inside to putter around under the hood and our new dog “Hudson” (i got outvoted) finally...

    Thermostat gasket

Took several months and several tries to figure out, but the crossover pipe (tube under crossover by the thermostat and top of water pump) fittings were two different sizes. Very slow drip which got worse when I replaced the hose and hadnt noticed the flange/connector pieces were different...

    White smoke at start up

https://smile.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=pocket+digital+multimeter Pick one. They’re cheap enough and easy to use for voltage, resistance, continuity and other testing. I keep one in each of my trucks, my toolbox and own a much higher quality/pricey...

    1988 M998 Cold Start Problem

Which zerostart model did you wind up buying? I‘ve been all over the usual online auto parts places, the phillips and temro site and 20 minutes later am no closer to figuring out which plug DOES fit vs. which one MAY fit. Thanks. edit: Nope, nope, I got it. Did a websearch for “zerostart...

6.2L Wait to start light not coming on

Those packard connectors and 25 year old dielectric grease aren’t infallible. I’ve been going through as many connectors as I can this past year one by one cleaning, slathering dielectric grease on the rubber, deoxit on the terminals, reconnecting stuff. I’d really like to get another decade’s...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Ho-ho-ho. Did that once long time ago... Brigade Commander went ballistic. Thanks for the reminder. I'll pick one up today.

    HMMWV Grounding Kit Install

Ground wires generally don't need to be as heavy a gauge wire as the hot lead. Current only needs to "sense" ground so it "knows" which direction to go, otherwise it sits in storage (battery, capacitor) waiting. I found it very interesting that the 30 (THIRTY) amp-rated (might be higher, but...

    1988 M998 Cold Start Problem

S3 unit's the way to go, Box AND TSU - and get MILSPEC glow plugs, about $70 a set. Yeah, they're mfd by Welman (aka "swellman") but they can all swell. Less so with the newer PCB/S3 system as they turn off the plugs sooner. If you CAN, find someone you can borrow a plug puller from - they...

Adding two-stroke oil for lubricity - this study says NO.

You know what they say you're doing when you ASSuME. [no reflection on Swamp Donkey 8)] Most of my adult life I've been under the assumption that - Engine R&D routinely involves TQM methodologies of design, assembly, TESTING, then fielding for "real world" performance data. - Said R&D would...

    Multi- fuel fuel line

    I went with this stuff: Continental 30R7 30R7 Fuel Hose 65126 1/4" x 25' 65128 3/8" x 25' http://www.continental-elite.com/Corporation/Downloads/Aftermarket-Brochure/AFT-Brochure.html There's 30R9 if you're anticipating using biodiesel (which Im not, I don't think the seals/parts in...

Engine noise on morning start ups! HMMWV 6.5 GEP

The MEP 802 generator starting instructions say to hit start and keep cranking until oil pressure rises (or hits somenumber I can’t recall, but once it starts it comes up FAST, like a second).
