Installed new Grade 8 tank bolts on my M149A1-2
Glad I did as all were very rusted and several were almost half original shaft size.
All came out fine except for one.
Would have to remove tank again to get it as it’s spinning the insert in tank.
I wanted to go back with the original style...
Finally had one of my Hawker battery’s die.
7 years old (I’ve had them 5) and I tried everything to bring it back.
It will not hold a charge. Voltage drops to 11.4 after sitting overnight.
The other one is still fine.
Truck still started, just a bit slower.
After running truck for a while I...
I would also add a can or two of seafoam to the fuel tank.
Will help clean up any dirty injectors that might also be causing issues.
Definitely won’t hurt.
The tongue is aluminum and is connected to steel pintle hitch and also steel main frame.
All the rest is a mix of heavy and medium aluminum.
The remaining Jack plate is 2” thick aluminum plate.
A few electrical components are still there inside the main box.
I hooked up the trailer lights to...
I bought this exact trailer on GP.
Looks like it was sold once before and then relisted, which is when I saw it and bought it.
Just got it home last night.
Believe it or not, those tires took and held air and towed great.
Made the trip from Ft. Sill (Lawton, OK) to Edmond, OK never going over...
Installed new glow plugs and changed oil and fuel/oil filters.
Wasn’t having issues with the glow plugs at all but it’s been at least 2 years since last changed and don’t want any issues this winter.
I cleaned up my Interior floor and treated it again with ACF50.
Had a ton of dirt that had collected in the nooks and crannies.
Now I’m good til spring at least.
It has been used in many ways.
Makes a handy remote water source.
It’s been used for remote showers, watering deer plots, filling thirsty dog water bowls, washing hands and face without having to go to or inside of house, etc.
It also gets used as a pressure washer supply
Very handy since now...
Installed new 6 blade fan (as recommended in another thread) and new fan clutch.
Clutch was still working but starting to seep.
Zero difference made that I can tell on the temp gauge.
Just Additional fan noise now when clutch engages.
Towed my M149A1-2 water buffalo to a remote location that needed Water.
It was full with potable water. 400 gallons.
M1008A1 did very well on the backroads with it.
Trip was about 18 miles there and back.
Love driving the back (Dirt) roads. My speed was about 20-25 max. Zero traffic...
I don’t remember the part number now.
If you do a search, the thread I started about installing a copper/brass radiator should show up.
Has the part number and plenty of pictures.
You know a new copper/brass radiator is available right?
Do a search for a copper/brass radiator install.
I installed mine over two years and it’s been flawless ever since.
Pricey, but worth every penny.
I would recommend the M1008.
The Deuce can be added later once you get experience on maintenancewith the CUCV.
Once you understand the 24v starting system and how to maintain it, the rest is fairly easy.
Remember it’s just a 1984 Chevrolet K30 pickup with a few military modifications.
