    newbie 331 question

I also suggest converting to full flow oil filter. As easy as bolting an aluminum plate to the block; unlike the 302 which requires block machining.

    newbie 331 question

Both SAE #2 and #3 bellhousings were available. Most likely, if your gold comet is mil surplus, it is a #3. The SM420 adapter need not be specific to Reo; others may have also also offered it. However, you may want to consider using a spicer 5 speed from an early M35. I did a search on...

    newbie 331 question

I have done the 302 swap on two Chevy pickups. It is fairly easy. The 302 is about 1-7/16" longer than the Chevy engine meaning you have to relocate the radiator and front motor mount. The best thing to do is to get a GMC radiator and radiator cross-member. Use the top half of the GMC cross...

    Deuce v. 5-ton for a bob-job

I initially licensed mine at 8k and then 10k. Again, it is up to the user to set GVW in my state. I described the changes to my truck and there was no issue with removing an axle. They, however, do care when an axle is added. Read up on the laws for your state.

    Deuce v. 5-ton for a bob-job

My bobbed deuce weighs 8k with the M105 bed and gas engine. In SD, I am the one who sets the GVW and pay accordingly with the licensing. I chose it as 10k because above that my insurance company didn't want to insure it.

    M35A2 speed boost

Are the kits actually available yet?

    M35A2 speed boost

Somebody here on SS claimed to have drawings from rockwell for a higher speed gear set but he never got back to me.

    8" headlight or spotlight housing

I THINK that you can get a 300W bulb in an edison base. It may have been a mogul base. These would be used on the old pole lights.

    M35A2 Transmission Fluid

You could use what Spicer originally specified for that transmission: 50wt oil.

Looking at 1st deuce, how to tell if sprag works?

It is not sufficient to jack up one wheel and give it a spin. Under load, a marginal sprag will still slip (in my experience). While there may be a kit to convert a sprag to an "air engagement" the air shift transfer case being discussed does not have a sprag.

    Are all Deuces Multifuel?

Get a copy of Tayloor's The Internal-combustion Engine in Theory and Practice. It details some of the changes necessary to run on gasoline (higher compression ratio and stronger components due to the higher maximum pressure and rate of pressure rise." Specifically, it states "The fact that...

    Are all Deuces Multifuel?

Speaking of biofuels, the below is an important new development. http://www.ecnmag.com/Technology-Achieves-Breakthrough-Efficiency-for-Ethanol-Engines-020609.aspx

    Are all Deuces Multifuel?

To be clear, I did a google search for diesel pistons, all of the ones that I found had the divot. So, it isn't just the old engines. My point was that the MAN may not have been the first to think of the divot. I disagree, it is certainly relevant IF that design feature is being credited as...

Looking at 1st deuce, how to tell if sprag works?

The sprag is in the transfer case. Keep in mind that the sprag clutch relies on friction to engage. This friction is also continually wearing out the sprag segments. After decades of use, it is not surprising that most are not working optimally. The forward direction is the one that is...

    Are all Deuces Multifuel?

The cummins pistons that I have seen also have that "divot" in the middle. I looked through my late fifties/ early sixties motors book which is the same era as the multifuel and the early cummins have the divot, the detroit diesel has a divot, and the international diesel has a cup. It don't...

    Value of Sprag Transfer Cases

$50 to $75 for a sprag. IMHO. A couple hundred bucks should buy an air shift.

    dead batteries and freezing weather

I don't know that this is true. In my experience, the voltage across the batteries has equalized with charging time. It is a bit of a misnomer, I think, if they don't discharge equally no amount or charging will make them "equal".

    Spark Plug Cables for M211

Unless you really like the waterproof ignition, you can drop in a civvy ignition from another 302 or even chevy six from that era.

Anyone interested in a lock for the KILL SWITCH ?

If you can make money off of it, good for you... But I agree that it is a bit much to show an idea for a simple lock and then expect nobody to copy it.
