Gentlemen,
The 939 series box will indeed work on an 809 series. I can tell you from experience. I bought one a fewyears ago for my M813 and it works flawlessly. Just plug it right up. As said before, a 809 series box will NOT work for a 939 series.

Jared,
My 813 is the same way; starts great when its fairly warm out, but below 30 degrees, it gets tough , typical of Cummins or even the Macks. If you follow the instructions on your dash for cold weather starting faithfully, it will start right up. I never have cold weather starting...
Im not sure exactly when they were ground off, but when I was a USMC driver/mech in the mid 80's, all of the 5 tons 800 and 900 series both, were all cut back then.
I was at Adelmans around Canton, Oh, and he had quite a few 800's with jakes on them. All were recognizable with a muscle car looking "air scoop" on the hood for clearance.
I have both. Again , your own choice....They both have their pros and cons. The 813 has alot more power, and it seems to get better fuel mileage than my multifuel powered M54A2. Depending on what you want to do with it, are you going to haul things, or are they just for parades, casual driving...
This happened to me earlier. Check thr rubber buffer mount between the TOP of the radiator and the engine. Mine had cracked through, causing the radiator to lean forward on brake applications, and steep downgrades causung the fan to contact the lower end of the shroud. Its an easy fix, and you...
Can anyone elaborate on this subject? I was chatting with a buddy of mine whom I spent time with in the USMC with. We were talking about a winter op in Ft McCoy WI we had participated in back in the 80's. On these ops, in WI and other areas I was at (Panama also) we would go to DRMO and "borrow"...
Eric,
If your 813 is a USMC version It has them, as all the 800 series trucks in the Corps were fitted with them. I had worked on them and drove them when I was in. Furthermore, the USMC's had a plate riveted on the map box saying "THIS VEHICLE EQUIPPED WITH DETROIT LOCKER NO-SPIN...
Hi all,
I read an earlier thread about rebuilding an 800 series control box, and that it was in an older issue of MVM. Can anyone tell me what issue, or possibly make me a copy of it? Thanks, hope someone could help in this matter.
Russ
I'm confused...I have an M813 with 4 new batteries AND a new generator installed last month. The question I have is when the truck idles my volt meter stays pegged to the right in the RED. When I start to drive, the higher the RPM's the more the needle moves to the left. When tached out, it is...
Not sure about deuces, but the 5 ton canvasses are different. the location of the straps for the "hot weather roll up" are different for the dropside and the fixed sides.
Ken, That kit you are getting from Boyce is only the intake extension for the air cleaner, a small piece of rubber hose for the extension, and 2 hoses for the air compressor and the crankcase breather tube. Also, a couple brackets and clamps are included. basically, its the "external" kit. There...
My M54A2 gets a pitiful 6 or so, and ironically the much larger Cummins gets about the same in my M813, maybe a little better. The 813 runs at much lower RPMs most of the time, which could be the major factor. But, you still cant beat the sound of that whistler, plus the smoke.
Has to be an older wrecker M62/543 with either the Continental 6602 gasser or multifuel. It probably received depot maintenance in 87. Sounds like a multi to me. What fender is the air cleaner on? Driver side its an 816, passenger its a multi (or Mack), no cleaner can its a gasser...Just a...
