Since this thread is leading to noise control, on the 831a does the soundproofing degrade? One of my 831 is very quiet and the other is noisy. They both are running Kloppk's controller, they both have no missing soundproofing foam.
The MEP-701a is LOUD, much more than a 802. I have a few 831a and like them for the most part, I highly recommend the controller replacementkloppk has developed. Save you the hassle of when the stock one decides to throw a fit. Its been a while since I have heard a 802 run in person I think the...
Alrighty, I'll get those measurements in the morning.
I also took amperage reading when the set is placed in the run position, it peaks at 3.4A and settles to 1.5A.
Ya, I can measure it. Just have to pull it from set first. But before I do that does anyone have a pulled engine sitting around that they could measure?

This is the best info I could find so far.
I'm fairly certain the L70AE is a J609B, the PMA uses the J609B pattern.
Heres a spec sheet from Yanmar
Here's the J609B pattern, top offset is 30 degrees and the bottom is 45 degrees. The Yanmar spec sheet says (B-flange)
Here's the J609A...
Keeping the existing charger seems like a bad idea, since it's a hard to find item. Might want to use maybe a battery tender, should run fine as long there is a battery on set. I don't think it would supply voltage with out a battery. Kinda wondering what the amperage draw is when set is on run...
Probably the smarter choice to keep the actuator to maintain the control panel start/stop and faults. Wonder how Overvolt And Overload would be handled, would lose these after inverter is removed.
Probably could achieve this by setting it up like the MEP-531a governor, or the actuator could be used to maintain 60Hz with a microcontroller kinda similar what kloppk has made for replacement SLC100's.
Sine reading yertnamreg post about doing a head swap on a Dewey Battery Charging Aux Power Unit (BAPU) Wonder if a swap with a 4kW head (NorthStar Generator Head — 4,500 Surge Watts, 4,000 Rated Watts, 9 HP Required, J609B Engine Adaption) is possible. I think since its running a diesel it...
Kerosene has less BTU's than diesel, you'll end up burring more kerosene compared to diesel. Kerosene isn't as good at lubricating, so it might be a bit hard on the fuel pump and the injectors. A additive would be recommend. The set does specify that it can burn JP-8 its similar to Jet A-1, JP-8...
I would get garden hose and spay it down, to see where the leak is coming from. I don't think water should be inside unit, when I pressure washed my 831a there was very little water that made it inside. I was also spaying from various angles to remove old stickers and to clean out soot from...
For the time being I'm just going to order a new battery replacement, 2x 18ah SLA for around $65 USD. A decent laboratory grade power supply that has a constant current capability cost around $160. Along with no guarantee that it would restore the battery.
Thanks for the clarification
When you refer to a Constant Current source, will my Battery Tender 24 Volt 2.5 Amp work? Or are you referring to a wall wart style power supply? I searched and found a PowerPulse 24 Volt Battery Desulfator Maintenance System. Wonder if anyone has tried a battery desulfator?
Thank you Kloppk...
I need some help restoring the 24 volt battery that came with the set. When I received it had 2.2 volt my 24 volt trickle charger refused to charge it (Battery Tender 24 Volt 2.5 Amp). After that I tried to connect it to another good 24 volt battery and let it sit for 3 days, that did no good...
I was having trouble with getting the unit to put out a full load with out smoking, when I went above 2500 watts. Here is the steps I took
1. Adjusted valves to .015" - No change in operation
2. Decided to replace the Fuel Injector Pump and the Injector. -The idea behind this was to...
