    Lets talk offroad upgrades .....

I plan on leaving the axle on my truck to work on. And I'm also planning on leaving the knuckles on if possible. So far I've ordered 2 inner and 2 outer axle seals. Grease to re-grease the wheel bearings when I put them back together. And a spindle nut socket. And while I have everything...

    Lets talk offroad upgrades .....

Got around to looking into my axles. Opened the front filler plug and almost a gallon of grey sludgy fluid came out. Not even sure how that much fluid could have even gotten in there. And that's a gallon out before I've even taken the diff cover off. Looks like I'll be going this route as...

    Lets talk offroad upgrades .....

No reason to feel sad for me. I bought this vehicle with the intention of pushing it hard right from the start and having it be simple enough to learn to work on myself. End of the day it's just money. So far my next steps are: -Hose pressure wash the underside really well. No reason to...

    Lets talk offroad upgrades .....

Got into a bit of fun over the weekend. Kept the air intake above water so she kept on running and never swamped out. Although with the fan running, I'm sure it swallowed enough. Not to mention the water over the bench seat and some wet pants. First question, anything I should check to make...

    Receiver Hitch Mount

Tagging in to see what you end up going with. I could dump the spare tire, but I'd like to keep the pintle.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Quick question that I cant seem to find an answer to. Will a 1980 civilian dash pad fit my M1008?

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Well the plug in the water pump is just a 3/8" hole and was an absolute PITA to get out. However, a bigger PITA happened when I put the probe in. I put the proper adapter in the pump housing, then I screwed the probe into it. And when I did, the top of the adapter broke off. So now I have a...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Here's a quick question. On the water pump, when installed, on the passengers side, there is an unused port. Mine has a plug in it with an indented square head. Any idea what size that is so I can get it out to install a temp probe?

    Drivers side seatbelt?

How is this thing attached to the floorboard? I've used a can of PB Blaster and a cheater bar on my breaker bar and I still can barely get this thing to budge.

Need a lesson on engine tempatures and cooling system.

Let me start with saying I just got my truck back from having the engine replaced and it runs fantastic. I can't believe the power it has now. However, when I got it back the shop said they flushed the radiator and a bunch of junk came out. Well that junk was plugging the holes just fine...

Head Gasket Replacement/General Engine Building Questions

I decided to dive into my replacement engine and give it new head gaskets while I'm checking things out. I got to the point where I removed the heads, but a little "debris" from the old gasket flaked into the cylinders, the coolant ports, and the top open area that I assume goes to the oil pan...

    Flywheel to Torque converter?

I figured it had aligning pins, so it wouldn't make a difference. Good to know it won't. Any other tips for taking an engine out? Any stubborn bolts that I'm going to come across?

    Flywheel to Torque converter?

I'm getting reading to pull my bad engine and replace it with a used one I picked up and checked out. I was reading TM 9-2320-289-34 and in a couple of locations it mentions making sure to mark the flywheel to torque converter location. Seeing as I'm using a replacement engine, how do I know...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Replaced the ignition lock so anyone with a military key can no longer start my truck. Also painted the whole floor with Herculiner.

This just reminds me that I need to pony up and buy a working seatbelt.

    Used Engine questions

There's likely a hole in a piston. 0 psi and there's diesel in the oil. If I rebuild this engine, I'll need to take it out plus the down time of working on it. Not to mention a rebuild kit is likely $1,000 whereas I've found a take-out engine from someone upgrading to a big block for $350.

    Used Engine questions

My M1008 has a bad cylinder and I need a replacement. I'm not looking to upgrade or rebuild at the moment, but I do want to get my truck up and running again sooner than later. My question is, what should I look for in a used engine? What red flags in particular?

    Best Civi 2 inch hitch?

I know it's an old thread, but now's the time for me. If I go with the one in the link, will I have to remove the pintle and pintle mounts at all? I can live with getting rid of the spare tire as I might end up mounting it in the bed anyways. Also, will I have to remove the bed to mount the...

Need some interior hardware sizes ....

I'm already used to the search function returning threads with dead links, or turning into some sot of in-fighting, I just don't bother with it. I asked a question, CUCVRUS did a great job answering it. Moving on.
