Breather doesn't seem to be problematic, I could easily puff air through it from the inside once removed.
I stripped the knuckle down and found one of the thrust washers on the axle scarred up pretty good. I will likely replace it.
I have a new axle seal from Boyce in my hands, but want to...
My plan at this point is to smooth the rough area, install a new seal (ordered from Boyce last week) replace the vent with a breather line and reassemble. I really, really don't want to have to get in there again.
Thanks for the input all. I will sand the shaft down. I thought about a speedy sleeve, but not sure I want to go that route. I was careful to tighten to spec and in a cross-wise fashion. Good thought on the vent, now may be a good time to install the breather lines to the air intake like I've...
I use kitty litter on my driveway to get spills (the oil spill stuff from Sams works great too, exact same stuff but a fraction of the cost.) Put it on, let it sit for a few days, grind it in with your foot until it powders and let it sit another couple of days. I have pulled every drop out of...
I am in the process of installing my 3rd front axle seal on the passenger side in about 14mos. I have looked in vain, but don't see anything that is obviously causing the problem. I just find that every few months, and few hundred miles, I have a steady drip of gear oil on the inside of my...
Short answer is no, you can't directly port the 5 ton PS to the deuce frame. That being said - ANYTHING is possible with enough time, skill and money. But some things aren't worth it.
I am about to kick off my PS conversion. You need the PS pump off a multifuel powered 5-ton (some had...
Welcome! Was it a present from your wife, or to her? Congratulations, either way ;-). I keep thinking about converting my bobber to a bobbed dumper.......someday.
I did this exact same thing - it didn't slide great but it did slide front-to-back. An additional set of hands helped tremendously, but I ultimately did it by myself.
I also strongly recommend a clutch alignment tool. I spent ~3hrs futzing around with it trying to get the tranny aligned...
I have used TNJ in the past, but only for odd items I can't find elsewhere and then I expect to pay top dollar for them. To be fair, the parts are always in the advertised condition. I do expect to have to do my own follow-up with them when I purchase and am just prepared for that.
I have also...
I have 5 as well, and would not ever try to pack them into a deuce for a trip, even an extended cab. The cost to convert it to something family-friendly would absorb the $12k+ quickly - and I can do the work myself.
I would recommend selling the truck and 5th wheel and getting a diesel...
It's been more than a week, but lots of work done on the truck. I posted up for some specific issues in a few other threads, but here's the short list:
1) new HG (shaved and tested the heads)
2) inspected the bottom end, and installed fumoto drain valves
3) cleaned the injectors
4) built and...
Also keep in mind that your in-tank pump (if stock) only puts out 5-6psi. Once the engine is running and the booster pump kicks in that jumps up to ~60psi. I.e. 10x the small drip you've got with the engine off, at least.....
I read here on the site (can't remember the post) that the same top was used for both the 2.5 and the 5 ton, and the velcro lines up on some bars on the 2.5 ton, and on the others in the 5 ton. Consistent with my deuce, never been inside a 5 ton to check.
I didn't get any rattle on my bars...
That was one of my issues. It's an easy check, just remove the fuel cut-off cover and turn on the in-tank pump. It will be readily apparent if you have a leak there. If no leak, I would just run it the way it is.
I just installed 2 of these on my deuce, I was able to get them for a pretty good price off the internet.
You want the T208 or the T208N (N signifying the version with a drain nipple on it.) The N is slightly more expensive, but was worth it for me.
I have yet to drain anything through...
