Correct. My thread rotted out from exposure as well. I wasn't able to save the channel connector (cant remember what happened now, its been so long) so the plastic siding piece was just epoxied directly to the soft top. Now I am several years on and the soft top itself is rotting apart from sun...
This.
Assuming the head job was just done and a new gasket was installed, it should not have blown this quickly. Either the install was butchered or you have some other problem.
I did the HG on my deuce on the side of the road parked out front of my house. Honestly I didn't think it was that...
Started the re-furb of the new-to-me hardtop for my deuce. When I purchased the deuce it was a soft-top. Like all soft-tops the front stitching quickly let go. I repaired that with the siding j-channel trick and it worked like a charm. Fast-forward several years and I have long weather-tears in...
I had a buddy with an older 2-cylinder motorcycle. He had a persistent 'chatter' or rattle at a set RPM range. It only came with a very specific RPM range, and it showed up every time he hit that range. He spent HOURS hunting it down, ultimately it was found to be the exhaust shield, which had a...
Got my heater core back from the radiator shop. They boiled it, cleaned it up and pressure tested it. In their words "Its in remarkably great shape for its age."
Made some progress on the in-cab heater install. Finished painting the blower and core enclosure, and figured out the mounting of that part. Got the air line moved since it was going to be blocked.
Still need to suss out the diverter mounting, and get that sanded and painted. Baby steps.
Good looking truck, thanks for posting the vid's. I've never used the blackout lights, are they just IR, i.e. would I need IR goggles or a camera to see the 'light'? Also I noticed in your vid's that you're making constant, small corrections with the steering wheel. I have to do that with mine...
I feel for you and your deuce. As awful as this is, the reality is youre probably lucky (as is the driver) that she didnt hit the family minivan, or an commuter car, or anything modern which likely would also have then been a total loss. Or even worse a bystander.
Thanks for sharing the pics...
Finished trouble-shooting a no/slow start issue. Ended up replacing a 6mos old battery. Managed to get both my deuce batteries (group 31) and my civvy 12v battery into the battery box. Then I took my 7yo for a ride. He loves the truck.
To close this issue out: I replaced my bad battery and now the truck fires up almost instantly. Exactly the same behavior I was getting before. I still want to test it for voltage drop under load, but now that the truck is working thats a "nice-to-have" and will need to wait just a bit. Cheers...
This is what I was worried about, dangit. Earlier this year I replaced my old batteries that were on the truck when I bought it years ago. I put in new group 31's, and now they're not doing the job. I'll pull them this weekend and get them charged up and then re-run the test. My old batteries...
