So I put my multimeter on my starter and had soldier 2 turn it over. Power at the starter dipped to only a few volts. The problem appears to be pre-starter. I put the meter on the batteries themselves and I get 23.2v. I assume its supposed to more like 25-26v? Brand new batteries too grrrr.......
I couldn't think of a connection/battery issue that would cause slow start that speeds up. I will go through it all though to be sure. My concern is there is an issue with the starter itself. I was hoping someone would be able to chime in with an "Oh yeah, I had that exact same issue, and it was...
Had a bit of an issue this weekend. I installed the Ross HF54 a couple of years ago and was surprised to see how darty it got after the mod. I installed 4* shims and that helped, but it was still too darty to be comfortable. I got a used set of spring perches a few months ago and drilled them...
I searched around, but couldn't find anything similar to my issue - so hoping someone can give me a few ideas. My truck has begun some weird starting behavior: When I push the starter button the starter barely turns over. As I hold the button the starter 'winds-up' for lack of a better term and...
Started the R&R on my new-to-me heater for the truck. After battling some very light rust I got the heater box disassembled, next step is to sand and paint. The core looks good and seems to hold pressure, although I had to blow a BUNCH of fine shredded material out of it, looked like some wee...
Thats a good point, I always think about things in reference to my (bobbed) truck, it would probably be quite a bit more stable with the two duallies on the back. My truck would likely be tipsy, but with only one singled axle out the back, it doesnt have anywhere near the footprint a full size...
The only issue I foresee is that the spring has a locator pin in it, so you'd want to drill a hole in the middle of the 2x4 to have room for the pin. Other than that, I would think you'd be fine.
Dmetalmiki's idea is a good one too, assuming you have a way to stabilize the truck while up in the...
I pulled my spring perches by placing a bottle jack under the spring itself right next to the axle, and then compressing the spring. I left the opposite side of the axle attached and did one side at a time. It worked like a champ and I never felt like I was in any danger.
Here's a couple of pic's of what I did on mine that seems to have worked and held up well. Here's a super short pictorial of it going together.
the part I used (purchased from a box home improvement store)
how it is designed to sit in the windshield frame
after it was cut down I epoxied it...
I did the vinyl siding repair as well. I epoxied mine on, then sprayed it OD. It's held up great across several years and parked outside. Easy, cheap fix.
The original clevis has a wedge in it, designed to be field serviceable. I guess I just want reassurance that the existing setup (as the cable came when purchased, pictured above) is not weaker than the stock setup with clevis + chain.
I need opinions pls! I recently installed a PTO winch and bought a new cable to go with it. The cable came with a hook, but it doesn't really support the original chain + hook based on how the hook attaches. Here's what I have:
I picked up a stock clevis off ebay, and am contemplating cutting...
I used an O/A torch, blew them out in a few seconds each w/o damaging the frame. Unfortunately it wasn't until the last few that I thought about it. For the first many I ground the heads off and then used a heavy pin plus large steel hammer to pound them out. Effective; but tedious...
