Under MY layer of paint is 2 layers of CARC. I wore several wire wheels to the nub trying to get through it. I finally gave up and sprayed over it.
I think whoever blasts them clean will be cursing for awhile..

I'm replacing the tires on my 1983 A2 deuce and while I have them apart I want to clean and paint the rims and lug nuts. My primary dilemma is what color to paint them.

I sprayed my deuce with Gillespie 24052 (Marine Corp forest green semi-gloss) and thinned it with Xylene. It went on fine and dried hard but 3 months later it faded to dead flat. It also water spots terribly using hard or soft water.

If you want full hydraulic p/s try www.waterloospecialties.com. One of our members sells a kit there made just for the deuce. It's not cheap though- around $3k. Good info there also.
The other option is the air assist unit which I have on my deuce. Not as good as hydro but much better than...
In 1983 the Gov't paid $78,000 for my A2. In 2012 I paid $5,000 for it. It had been used by the Az. Air Nat'l Guard and was very clean when I got it. No damage and no mechanical problems. Not a bad deal- for me. :-)
