AD4U here in central SC. Been a ham since the late 1960's. I know several hams in my area who are active on this site. I am not aware of any nets for generators. It would be nice to have one. I have restored around 15 MEP 002A and 003A generators. I kept three for my use. I am not an expert on...
I live in the middle of nowhere. When the commercial power goes out, it often takes a week or longer for power to be restored.
I added a 75 gallon SS fuel tank on the front of the trailer that houses my MEP-003A. I connected the aux fuel pump on the 003A to the 75 gallon tank via a 3/8 inch...
I have two wells on my farm. My main well is a 210 foot deep well with a 3HP pump that draws 23 amps at 240V when running and more when starting. The pump is at 180 feet and will give 40 GPM. This well and pump are fed from the electric system in my shop that is fed separately from the electric...
A couple of "raps" with a small hammer may help the Kroil to get into the threads. Don't over do this and bend something. Heat and more heat and more Kroil and more raps and finally a flare nut wrench on the nut and patience and more patience. That always worked for me.
Take the wire off each glow plug. Use a VOM (volt / ohm meter) and measure the resistance from the terminal to each glow plug to ground. If you get 5 ohms, the glow plug is good. If you get a higher resistance, the glow plug is bad.
First two times I used the 003A for a week I used 6 gallon cans and manually filled the 13 gallon tank by hand. This worked but is a pain. This time I used a 55 gallon drum and the aux pump on the 003A. I had the 55 gallon drum in the front end loader of my tractor beside the 003A. Every two...
132 hours non-stop power from my 003A.Commercial power came on Thursday at 4PM. The 003 used about 110 gallon of diesel fuel and used about a quart of oil. I bought it 3 years ago. It has kept my house running for a week for two ice storms and one hurricane. Time to give it a rest and an oil...
Well it is 4PM on Wednesday and still no commercial power in sight. The 003A is still humming after running right at 100 hours with out a break. Power company said it may be Friday before power is back on.
Hurricane Matthew blew down my farm Friday night. The power went off about the same time. I cranked my MEP 003A Friday night at 10PM and it still is still chugging as of Monday night at 8PM. It has not been shut down. The power may not be back on before Friday. The house is 4200 sq ft and we are...
After PB Blaster I used a brass rod (3/4" X 12") and a small hammer to rap the metal nose of the switch and patience and doing it again and again. After doing this for 4-5 stuck switches, each switch got un-stuck.
The MEP 003A that I kept for my personal use is mounted on a military trailer with a 100 gallon aux fuel tank. I do not use the built in 13 gallon fuel tank at all. In fact it was removed and installed on another 003A. I re-plumbed the fuel suction hose so the two pumps that normally operate the...
Stuck reconnect switches are very common. If all you will ever use is 120/240 single phase I would leave it alone. However if you need single and three phase power you have been given good advice here. I have been about 90% successful un-sticking stuck reconnect switches by carefully loosening...
120V between L3 and L0 AND between L1 and L0 and 240V between L1 and L3 definitely indicates the reconnect switch is in the 120/240V single phase position. Reconnect switches can be VERY problematic. If you think all you will ever use is 120/240V single phase, I WOULD LEAVE THE RECONNECT SWITCH...
All this switch does is select which one of the 3 legs of the 3 phase output that the ammeter and volt meter read. It has nothing to do with the 3 phase power output.
Just about always you can get them out. First lots of patience. Then PB Blaster or a similar product applied several times over a few days. Then maybe tap the end of the plug with a hammer using a punch. This may jar the threads just a little so the PB Blaster can get in. Then see if you can...
I guess you could use two after market pumps and re-plumb the hoses a bit. I understand the OE Facet pumps had internal check valves etc and were designed to run in a series / parallel configuration. That may not work properly if using other pumps.
Any way I refurbished a cannibalized 003A by...
