What do you call a sharp un-comanded turn at 60 mph in a forwarded controlled vehicle . . . death. What do you call 2 M977's or M985's involved in a rear ender with each other, kiss the crane with your face, then meet your maker.
My wife and I have driven ours several thousand miles, easy to learn and drive.
People may confuse it with the Mk48 which will kill you in some instances.
No spare Scorpion parts that I need to make go away. I have spare engine, transmission and one new set of tracks but I'll probably need some or all of those.
My modifications allows my wife and I to go from fully enclosed to topless with the bows stowed in 4-5 minutes EASY! It is less than 10 min to completely put up the top and have it ready to roll down the road. Stock, this is NOT the case, PITA! I even made bow stowage rack for my custom 1...
Detroit 2 stroke Diesels will not run without the supercharger, it is part of the induction system. If you let off the fuel cutoff at just right time, the engine will run backwards.
It was a crying shame the Army wanted to stock one less lubricant and put motor oil in the transmissions! When mine came out it was shot and the prior owner decided that if he had to pay for a full rebuild, it might as well be a 5 speed. I've heard the lifetime of the transmissions with motor...
The supercharger isn't really used as such, it provides little boost, it is simply an air pump to scavenge the cylinders of exhaust gasses and all 4 valves in the head are for exhaust. I was able to get the new (NOS) cover for $200 shipped and the bows from a guy here on SS. I had new bed...
I like the shorter wheelbase compared to my M977A2, my wife mostly drives mine now, it's like driving a bouncy motorhome and tracks perfectly down the freeway.
Mine takes a LONG time to get up to temperature, perhaps 30 minutes at freeway speeds but then goes up to about 10-20 degrees above the coolant temperature. I like oil temperatures above 212 as to keep the oil free of water contamination.
Rotary engine like a Wankel, or a radial engine like fitted to earlier aircraft and some tanks. Answer to an earlier post, I have a British Scorpion. Too bad seeing so many CVRT's going to crap but thats' the way it goes . . .
Yup, I've had 5 of them but I'm down to my, last, best one. I started hoarding spare parts for them 15 years ago and even have 2 rebuilt B-81 RR engines still pickled . . . the last 2 we could find in England. Even have 2 NOS exhaust systems for them as well as new carbs and distributors.
Good luck with the Diesel install, be sure to covert the engine to dry sump so you can get the engine centerline low enough. It doesn't have axles but wheel stations with drive shafts. Unless abused they aren't prone to locking up or breaking. Looks like yours was abused or neglected.
I do have some Dowty jet drives and I think bevel boxes to drive them. Also a complete Stalwart with the quietest jet drives I've ever heard. I'll have to check my spares when I get home.
An M35 bed doesn't compare. A 656 bed is all aluminum with 3 fold down sides & rear, integrated fold out aluminum seats with steps when in the down position and air seals to keep water out.
Scott, good to hear its back on the road, last time I heard it was in poor shape.
