The 242 seems to be the better case, it's what the h1's have and what the military upgraded too from the 218. There are a couple versions, or revisions, of the 242 so be aware of that. I know there is one version with 3 bolts holding the tail shaft housing on and a later version that has 4...
They are referencing the h1's which came out in 92, it should work fine for your hmmwv. I would suggest getting new coolant hoses while you're already in there and have them disconnected anyways.
Alright from a little research it seems that all 242's have the smaller cooler loop and that only the 218's have the larger loop. I still don't know what transfer case is pictured at the top of the pdf but it doesn't look like any 242 or 218 I've seen.
I got a great deal on what I thought was a nos military np242amg, but now that I have it apart I'm thinking its the civilian version. It has the smaller cooler loop and different differential like the civilian version. On the other hand it has the larger hole for the mechanical speed sensor and...
When I bought my truck it was missing the overflow bottle so I had to get a new one. I've been through 2 of those plastic ones and they both failed on the first drive. One I bought used on ebay, the other I got "new" from woolfer. After the second failed I have no more trust in those plastic...
I shopped around and paid way less than what kascar has them for, but here is the link

As for the led lights, I got them from ebay but you can probably get them pretty much anywhere. I did get the ones that had leds on...
For my hmmwv I got some of those screw in things that were made of clear plastic. I also got some ba9s based 24v led's so that heat wont melt the plastic anymore. For the gasket I just used a bit a hose trimmed down to size and I have no problem seeing any of my gauges at night, its quite bright.
Nice looking truck. How good is the seal between the x doors and the soft top? Also is the rear curtain supposed to be mounted outside the soft top, I mounted mine under the soft top flap to better keep water out.
I'd think that switching to gas would be harder than finding another diesel. Not only would you have to find a 24v fuel pump, but then some way to mount it in the fuel tank. You also have to find a spark plug system that would work on 24v. If you find another mechanical diesel engine you can...
I replaced all of mine and I don't remember any of them being especially horrible to get out, but they all did have anti-seize around them from the military. The tsu is located on the coolant crossover tube on the passenger side.
