    MC Rebuild

Pulled the trigger on a new one last night. Now if I can just get my airpack issue sorted out I can get the truck back on the road! Tks to all for your help on this.

    MC Rebuild

I am on the fence on rebuilding it vs replacing it. Initially I pulled it because I was servicing my airpack and the MC is so easy to get to with the airpack out, I figured I might as well. I did find a significant amount of crud in my airpack hydraulic piston. It seemed to hone just fine and...

    MC Rebuild

Pooch: tks for the link to the exploded pic, that was helpful. RL: great TM, it has a wealth of info on the MC and should allow me to rebuild it w/o trouble. I took a look at ebay, starting prices were $65. I can get a rebuild kit for $25 so that's still a cheaper route (even by the time...

NY Deuce Owners & NYS Inspections

Ultimately I did register mine as historic (DMV told me though that there was a 10k lb limit for historic vehicles?) I just got the plates, so we'll see how it goes. With the amount of attention I get from driving it, and my historical vehicle club (of one) anywhere I am taking it is a club...

    MC Rebuild

Yep, that's the same result I had. Bit frustrating, although I am by no means a search expert on the search function on here......

    MC Rebuild

Tks Pooch. Chpt 8 appears to have instructions on removing and reinstalling, but nothing on rebuilding it?

NY Deuce Owners & NYS Inspections

I am jealous of your 'commercial' definition. In sunny CA a vehicle is defined by it's weight capacity, not the useage model. So my bobbed deuce (which came in ~9400lbs) is considered a 'commercial' vehicle even though it sees only private use and I will never make a penny on it. Sure do...

    MC Rebuild

Before the flames come out: I searched through half a dozen TM's and on the site, however at this point I am ready to accept defeat. Can someone lend a brother a hand and point me to the TM I need to rebuild the MC in my '68 deuce? I assume once I get the soft parts out I am ok to hot tank...

    Deuce cooling system clean out

Just received the parts today, $45 from Amazon + free shipping. I am not sure if I am glad I read this thread, or wish I never had. Looks like I need to find a reason to drain my cooling system so I can install it.

    Injector pump shut-off cover removal

No surprises in taking it off. I had mine off a bit ago, I think I had a little bit of oil spillage and I had to take a minute to figure out how to get all the pieces back in and hooked up correctly (the shut off cable slides into a bracket.) But I don't recall anything spring-loaded that was...

    Need your opinion

Tks guys, appreciate the responses. I will pull the MC today, and rebuild it at the same time as the airpack. Better to have the peace of mind.

    Need your opinion

Tks Gimp. Also, I found a really good thread discussing DOT 3 vs DOT 5, not sure why it didn't come up in my search before. I think I have the answer I need on that.

    Need your opinion

I pulled my airpack today for an R&R and it leads me to a couple of questions. should I pull the master cylinder as long as I am down there and have the airpack out of the way? attached are pic's of the MC. It looks pretty clean to be honest, it's in much better shape than the airpack, but...

    Axel boot question

I just redid mine on the passenger side. I ordered 2 (solid style,) replaced the leaking one and put the other new boot in the parts box for when the d-side goes bad.

Cut open coolant filter from the deuce

X2 on the additive, whats the purpose? Also in the poking around I did online today (as a result of this thread, thank you very much.....) I found an article that said you should replace the filter 3 times in the first 9mos of installation, and then ~1/yr after that. Guess this is going on the...

    spindle stuck

To close the loop on this one: I think at some point my knuckle either got out-of-round, or another knuckle was installed on my vehicle which was out-of-round. After doing some grinding with the dremel, and freezing the spindle in the garage freezer for a couple of days I was able to get the...

    I'm "stinky"

I spend all day in the office on the computer and phone. On weekends I get to pull out the wrenches and hand tools and really work - with my hands on heavy iron. It's the best way I have found to decompress!

deuce falls on it face on hills

Small is relative, so not sure what your hills look like, however I bought my deuce and drove it from Salt Lake City to Sacramento so right over the Sierra Nevadas. I would not call that a small hill, and never got below ~45mph even while towing an M105. If you're truly getting down to ~25mph...

    OMG the color

What surprises me is that as bad as the color is, the work painting it looks to be worse. Look at the steering wheel and boot on the shifter cane. No matter what color you chose, if you're going to do the job, at least do it right.......

    spindle stuck

A'ight, I checked my axle and it's seated all the way (as evidenced by the flange being flush against the backside of the hub). However, now that it's light I can see that there is some scoring on the inside rim of the hub where the spindle is supposed to insert. Everything else is aligned...
