pass side. I did not remove the axle, but the hub assembly did rest on it for a bit. It's behaving exactly as if the axle were sticking out just a bit.
Can the axle come out that easily? The only other axle I have removed was on my landcruiser, and it had c-clips, so it couldn't come out...
I put a new one-piece rubber boot on my truck today, and haven't been able to get the spindle back on? Everything got cleaned and no installation problems up until I tried to get the spindle on, but it won't seat all the way.
It gets to within ~1/4" of sitting against the hub, but then is...
One other option to consider: I had considerable luck towing mine offbase a few miles to a fellow SS'ers place, and prepping it for the drive home from there.
I had a 650 mile recovery, so a lowboy wasn't a realistic option for me. I had the truck towed off base ~2 miles to another SS members...
Love the look of your interior with how clean it is. It looks like you installed some 'drop-down' type panels? Did you put in any additional insulation?
I had some extra time after a servicing yesterday, and decided to oil my airpack.
I was fortunate enough that the square plug unscrewed with just a little bit of convincing. I grabbed a syringe and 1oz of air tool oil and started to put it in. I got about 1/3 of it in, when it started oozing...
I just did some tranny work and drained out whatever was in there from the gov. I replaced it with 80w gear oil (I had a gallon of it in my garage) and have found now that it is tough to shift, and the truck won't go into 4th until the tranny warms up.
Looks like some SAE 50 is in my future.
To close out my own (semi)-open issue: I went out today to move the deuce today to get ready to do some work on it. It still has the previous mix in it (~20 gallons 87 octane + ~4 gallons 100wt WMO.) I hit the starter and it turned right over with no problems. It drives like a champ, and...
x2. I was just wondering what was in there that caused the damage. I guess it's rhetorical since it doesn't make a practical difference now, but I am curious if you find out what it was; sugar, sand, molasses, flour, etc.....
Mine came from GL with the plastic box. Every time I see a post about battery box issues, I read it so I can feel good about how I don't have any problems with mine :)
I ran out of diesel the other day and put in 87 octane gas. It had a HARD time starting, that was a bit of a surprise when contemplating the sticker on my dash that says gasoline is an acceptable fuel ;-).
I thickened up ~20 gallons of gas with ~4 gallons of WMO from a helicopter (THICK...
I know this is an old thread, but I wanted to take a moment to say what a great experience I had with Tim at Herlong when I did my pickup. He was incredibly friendly, super helpful, and genuinely seemd to want to help.
He rooted around for a tool to help us with the truck, helped my bro and...
I had a very similar issue - mine turned out to be a very slightly ballooned input shaft. I checked it by removing the floor plates, putting the t-case in neutral and running the truck. With the tranny in neutral I got just a very slow spin out of the output shaft (I could hold it still with...
I've done other drive shafts myself, for what is a relatively small cost (even here in the Republik of Kalifornia - $150 lengthened and balanced) it's absolutely worth it to have a shop do it. You can't afford to have your main shaft out-of-balance, and you don't want to rip out a weld or mess...
My '67 kaiser-jeep has the ammeter in that position. However, I believe the advice to get an air gauge and take it with you just in case is sound - makes for a good spare regardless.
