    My M38A2 (CJ5)

When I was working on the rears, I looked at the recessed buckets like the HMMWV use. There's just not enough room (width) on a Jeep with a tailgate.

Help me Identify this rolling chassis

The bottom has fallen out of the scrap market. Scrap steel is bringing less than half what it was this time last year.

Gensets at auction with oil filter and radiator hoses pulled? WTF?

The people getting them ready for sale don't care. I've seen what looked like they took a pick ax and punched a hole in the oil pan because they were too lazy to unscrew a drain plug. Cutting to bottom radiator hose is also common as a way to remove coolant.

    My M38A2 (CJ5)

Worked on the Jeep a little today. Added some m-series front turn signals. I know, the smaller ones might have looked a little better but as I said about rears, I want to be seen better as to avoid accidents. I just removed the stock lens and bezel and bolted a military light front cover...

What 5-ton series would be good for mudding?

The only bad thing about having the biggest mud truck around is who's going to pull you out when you get stuck (you will get stuck). A 5-ton buried to the axles in deep mud can take quite a feat to get it out. Just something to think about.

    New Data Plate Source

Anybody have any recent experience with this guy? I'm needing some custom data plates made for my Jeep http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?136949-My-M38A2-(CJ5)&highlight= . What I'd like to have is a standard M38A1 data plate with changes made to fit my CJ (model, manufacturer, etc).

    Deuce load?

Here's a pic of the load. It is a truck I had that I sold. I didn't own it when the pic was taken. The guy owed me a favor so I had him haul me a load of gravel. I had no idea he was going to haul that big of load. With the custom bed, the truck weighs right at 16,000lb empty. That puts a...

    Army CJ5

While not a military Jeep as in a MB or M38, it could have been owned by the military. They procure lots of civilian vehicles from time to time. I'm not sure they assign registration numbers to civilian vehicles though.

    Army CJ5

Was this "CF" number on there when it came from the military? The position it's in says it's a registration number but I've never seen a registration number start with "CF".

    Technically...it works! (dump bed)

There's going to be a pretty good load on everything when the bed starts up because the cylinder will be almost flat. The overhang will help. Another thing I did when a did my dropside dump is added a 2X2X1/4 wall square tube under both bed rails. I needed it for height with my scissor hoist...

    Deuce load?

I have personally witnessed a deuce with 9 ton (18,000lb) of gravel in the bed. I would not advise doing this but surprisingly, it didn't look all that overloaded.

    Logic Behind 'New Posts' Button?

When you first come to the site and hit the "new post" tab it gives you all the new post since your last visit. After you've been on the site for awhile and hit "new post" it's like coming to the site all over again and it will show the new post that happened since you logged in the first time...

    Coolant in engine oil

May be time to drop the oil pan a see if you can see where the water is coming from. It will work better if you have a way to pressurize the cooling system a little. If you've got heavy white smoke from the exhaust, It pretty much has to be a head gasket or liner. Electrolysis isn't all that...

    Coolant in engine oil

As has been stated, it could be lots of things. The worst of which would be a cylinder liner but I'd eliminate all other things first.

    NHC 250 Commercial Applications

I had a 1969 Loadstar IH with a NHC250 in it. It was a pretty common engine years ago but hasn't been put into a civilian truck in many, many years. All the 855cid blocks were of the same basic design with some changes here and there but they basically all take the same footprint.

    My M38A2 (CJ5)

I thought about the early tail lights and agree they would look better but I've been almost rear ended twice. I figure I need as big of tail lights as I can get. 232 engine, 3-speed. Honestly, I don't know what the axle ratio is. I'd love to swap in a granny low 4-speed of some sort. Even with...

Caterpillar 3116 is a bad Engine?

They are rebuildable. Just like PB said earlier though, they don't have sleeves so you have to have them bored and sleeved if you want to replace a cylinder. As apposed to a sleeved engine where you just drop in another sleeve. I guess a more correct term would be that they aren't "in-frame"...

    My M38A2 (CJ5)

I thought I'd start a thread on a little project I've been working on. It's actually a 1974 CJ5 but I've added some military modifications so I thought M38A2 would be appropriate. The original speedo/gauge combo was inop so I replaced the instrument panel with one from a M715. All the gauges...

    Can't read post

I didn't get a screen shot. I was going to and then it fixed itself. Everthing on the site worked except the text in the threads. No issues with other sites.

    Can't read post

It seems back to normal now. A few minutes ago, all I could see was a bunch of jumbled up letters that nobody could read when I opened a thread.
