I wondered about all those CUCVs deserted out there in that field. Looks like you got loaded up without a problem.
Jason is a great guy to deal with. He always appreciates it when people come prepared and will return the favor when you need it.
That rumor has been around a lot longer than the internet. I remember hearing that in the late '80s. :-P
I want to think that there was a converted gasser before the 6.2 that was a Oldsmobile.
I tend to agree on liking the in-line diesels vs the V8. I'm not saying the V8s are junk, I'd just...
I think the main reason people call them "throw away engines" is the same reason they also call a Cat 3208 the same. They don't have sleeves so when they wear out or score a cylinder wall, it's cheaper just to get another engine than it is to do the machine work (bore and sleeve) to rebuild it...
A remote mounted motor should work ok but if you also use your factory winch PTO, where are you going to mount the pump?
Here's a link to a hyd pump I added to a deuce using the winch PTO. As you can see in the pics, by the time you fit a pump in front of the PTO, that doesn't leave you much...
Looks good. I put a dump on mine several years ago and it's been really handy.
Only advise I can give is be really careful hauling big rocks, stumps, etc. The bed floor is very thin and can be damaged very easily.
Here's my theory, people know that prices will go up when IP takes over so they are trying to jump in on GL while they can.
Prices will go up in general with IP because of their guaranteed inspections. Gone are the days of true surplus buying. IP is going to fetch more of a retail price.
You're going to have to move that chain to get the forks off. Do you see that notch at the bottom of the carriage directly under where you have the chain wrapped? You have to slide the forks over to that notch to lift them off. Most forklifts have stops that prevent you from just sliding the...
I went back and looked at a few of the lots. I was right, quantity is listed in pounds so that indicates a scrap sale. The don't say anything about it in the description though.
I wouldn't plan on driving anything away from there.
I went back to look at the trucks but can't seem to find them. Anybody got the event number?
I may be wrong but I thought in the quantity it was listed as pounds. That usually dictates a scrap sale.
Gerrykan, that info is outdated. It used to be true that 6,000 and up were scrap sales but GL...
You can just jack the forks up and chain them off. The cylinder won't move if you jack the forks because they are connected by chains. You'll have to chain them up.
I was going to bid but got tied up today and didn't get a chance.
It was a scrap sale so no sf97. Most were in terrible shape and will either take a whole bunch of work to make a usable truck or a parts truck.
I think the only thing different in the summer and winter blend has to do with emissions. For your situation, I'd just buy it when the price is low and not worry what blend it is.
I'd hook a winch to it and winch it off. Those things don't have a great amount of traction and even if the brakes can hold it, it will more than likely slide off the ramps. Using the gearing to hold it back won't work either.
Please be careful. We don't want to see the next post from your...
