    Epic Tire Failure

Notwithstanding the claim that the A3 rims are designed for the tire mentioned, It is indeed a fact that rim flange depth is a factor in tire bead support. Older CCKW deuces used wheels that had a shorter flange (even though they are snap ring wheels. It is hard to see the difference, but it...

    Deuce Tow Bar

Make that another soul that is looking for feet for his heavy tow bar's. I could use a set with 1" feet pins and a set with 3/4" feet pins

    Installed Radials, now truck wanders

It really is the alignment. I did not know that Deuces used a castor plate, but so much the better. If you can't modify the existing plates then you ought to be able to make some. A large truck alignment shop ought to have ajustment plates you could buy. The M37 does not use plates, but locates...

    Installed Radials, now truck wanders

It is usually a toe in issue when switching to radials from bias. Actually caster and camber are involved as well, but those are difficult adjustments to make on 4X4 steer axles. This is the reason I stick to bias swamper's on my M37 rather than use radials. The military should have some toe in...

    16x6.5 wheels for M37

I hate to be picky, but the stock wheels for an M37 are actually snap ring rims. A split rim is two halves that twist together after the tire is installed and they are held in position by the air pressure in the tire. If they don't get locked together well, they frequently come apart on...

    16x6.5 wheels for M37

I have just spent a half hour searching eBay for 5 hole 16 inch rims that would fit an M37 and the only thing I can find are the stock 16 inch snap ring wheels and tires that Maddawg has listed. Any chance of getting a link to the wheels? I am anxious to see what is available that would take...

I don't have anything newer than September 2010. Photo near Monarch Pass in Colorado. Aspen and scrub oak just starting to turn.

How difficult is your access to the broken bolt?

    16x6.5 wheels for M37

As I recall, 16 inch drop center rims do not fit well over the M37 drums. If you go all the way and convert to disk brakes then it is an easy do with 8 lug nut flanges and room to get the 16 inch wheels over the brake assemblies. If the desire is tubeless tires, then one might look at custom...

    The unofficial g749 picture thread

Can you find any of the old bumper identification? The white paint was applied to ours sometime 1962 or before as that was when Harry Diamond Labs became the name of that research arm. We found "Harry Diamond Laboratories" on top of white paint on the van body. What we could not fine was any...

    M105 trailer brakes, elec conversion?

I agree with the electric over hydraulic actuator. It works fine on converting surge brakes to electric controllers and gives better control with situations like backing up etc. (Just cost more than a surge system.)

    The unofficial g749 picture thread

Actually, we are in the process of learning all sorts of things about the truck. It was only surplussed because it was getting difficult to buy parts. We found Memphis Equipment papers in the glove box where ignition specifications were provided as well as other "settings" information. The...

    The unofficial g749 picture thread

What the heck, mine's still a work in progress, but here it is. First photo was taken at Barstow GL just after the 4th of July weekend 2010 when we picked it up. No ECU was required. Worked hard for a month and a half to get it in some sort of shape to display at the Colorado Sport Air Show on...

    1941 wc-41

I thought some WC's were 3/4 ton and one was 5/4 ton. The one pictured is indeed a half ton with the rounded nose grill. I think the flat grill units were 3/4 ton except for the 6x6 version. In all my 70 years of looking and drooling over military vehicles, I have never seen a bed like that on...

antifreeze leaked into starter now problems starting?

Anti-freeze is most often glycol based and it acts like sugar. If the anti-freeze got on the starter bearings and they heated a bit, things would start to caramelize and gum up. The same for anything allowed to soak a while in anti-freeze. It sounds like you need to pull the starter and solenoid...

    Supporting Homes for our Troops

If I tell everyone the Army had "Warwagon" painted on the sides and doors, they probably wouldn't belive me. I think it was in blue drab which is supposed to not photograph very well. I think we should repaint that back on the truck and just let people think what they will.

First time Cracking into the Military Truck world.

With all the experts here on Steel Soldiers, I am surprised your question about engine size has not been answered. Until that happens, I will throw in what I know. It is my understanding that all M200 series GMC trucks came with the 302. I also understand the WWII GMC CCKW and its variants came...
