I think you underestimate the average rock crawling fab shop, lol. Yes, building something like that would not be a problem for the larger shops with a roller and press brake.
Eh, that wouldn't be real hard for a fab shop to make. My buddy who makes rock crawler chassis has everything needed to do it and has the steel in stock. Cost would probably be more than it's worth for just a show piece though. It's basically a up sized, non-folding version of the Pull-Pal...
I'd get it if you want to do a full restoration or fully modify it. Anything in between is just a pain in the tail due to odd parts and similar issues.
It's possible for the alternator to get killed by a malfunctioning regulator but it's probably just as possible for a bad alternator to kill the regulator. Also, if you haven't already bypassed the Ammeter gauge, it's a good idea as they can also cause a lot of charging system problems.
Yup, should be a divorced NP205.
The transmission will be a NP435 is it has a granny gear or a NP445 if it lacks the granny gear and uses the close ratios.
Looks like a nice Dodge. W300 or W400? Looks to have the closed knuckle D70 front axle with the D60 rear. I'd kill to have of those PTO winch setups, lol.
Yeah, I was sort of surprised at the size of this convoy. Since they seemed to trickle in all day from early in the morning I thought maybe they were two separate convoys that linked up but there didn't seem to be enough support trucks. I was looking for a wrecker in the bunch but was not able...
Another thing to consider is that one of the exporters may have an order for them, so while that price may be hard to swallow for the collector, it's probably still profitable for a rebuilder/exporter.
Yeah, the girls at the McDonalds about 200' away said they told them they were on their way to Ohio for training. Didn't get a look at the front of the bobtailed trucks but there were definitely Freightliners in the two rows with the tank trailers attached. Some were woodland, some desert...
Ah, I see. Thanks. I think a few had that front end but others still had the "normal" civilian looking headlamps. Perhaps they were upgraded and the headlamps/hood was not changed?
We get a few convoys moving through the area but I don't think I've ever seen this many all parked in one place here locally. Word is they pulled in about 8AM Saturday and more kept coming in until they filled this one section of a local plaza parking lot. These were taken about 2AM Sunday...
Most likely not as I would say it probably has the part time conversion done on it also. It was usually sold as a complete kit to add locking hubs to the front axle and convert the transfer case to part time 4WD.
The M880 and all '75-'79 Dodge trucks are fulltime 4WD and have no locking hubs on the front axle, just a nut retaining the stub shaft. The fact that yours has Milemarker Selectro hubs on it would lead me to believe that is has had a Milemarker part time conversion done on it. It's highly...
Nothing wrong with a NP203 if you like full time 4WD. Of course that looks to have had a Milemarker part time conversion done on it so it's now part time 4WD. The NP203 is almost as strong as a NP205 and will give long service as long as someone doesn't put something other than the SAE 30...
The last one is most likely an ambulance. There is one just like it here locally still in original color and lettering. Could also have been a transport like the shuttles for pilots on airfields.
If it's still wearing it's military paint and markings, I don't see why it would not have a place at a military show though I doubt it will get as much attention as some of the tactical vehicles. Generally modified vehicles don't get as much respect that I have seen but then that's never...
True, but you have to draw the line between a military contract truck with an M series number and what amounts to a basic fleet build truck that is bought the same as a civilian truck. Dodge built a lot of Crew Cabs for fleet customers, some in years when they were only available to fleet...
