Looks like racks for ordnance of some sort. Signal Co.? Who knows. Great score. I paid 850$ for mine with bows and cover. It was a recent rebuild. Great deal for sure. Congrats. Only thing about the A2s I don't like is the width between wheel wells. I use mine all the time at the ranch off road...
Feel free to search my posts and threads . There are posts regarding rear disc brake conversion, front winch mount , tires, lift, radios, overdrive ( Gear Vendor ) and much more. They are not fast especially up hill, but get good mileage with the 6.2 and work great off-road . Mine is very reliable.
Welcome aboard to this addictive hobby. As a M1028 owner , restorer, and enthusiast, the best advice I can give you is to read all you can on this site using the search function. That's what I did and it is the best way to learn from people's experience . You'll hear the good bad and the ugly...
I personally like the design of the m101a2 or m101a3 over the m1101/2. The m101a2/3 series has 8 lug wheels which happen to fit my 3/4 ton m1028 in case you need a spare. They also fit my 3/4 ton Dodge 4x4. Also the bows and sides are easier to source than the m1101/2. You can fit a sheet of...
I want one ! But have no place to park it.:(:( I've restored a '44 GPW, and a 1028 CUCV. Also own a Dodge 5.9 Cumins, so I'm familiar with diesels, but they are miniature in size compared to the Wreckers. Need to get out of CA. Need more elbow room.
Try Boyce Equipment for a rear 1028 spring replacement. I went through the exact same scenario as you with a cracked leaf. Boyce set me up with a take off near NOS replacement. I think it was 100$ plus shipping. Tell them it's for a CUCV 1028 and they'll send you the right spring ready to install.
I've had a 1028 for 5 years. I've done many upgrades and they are too many to list. But I love this truck. It is super reliable. Runs great for a 6.2 . Don't expect a lot of top end. But it will get you there and back. Expect to learn the operating systems and be able to do your own repairs...
Winch is mounted between frame rails on a universal mounting plate from Harbor Freight. Which is a 12,000 lb. from HF also. Setup works great, out of the way, easy install. Here you go.
What exactly do you need on your rig. My 1028 was my first diesel , and after 3 years it's dialed in very nice. They aren't that tough , once you learn the basic operating systems you can maintain ( with the TMs ) it yourself. PM me if I can help.:grd:
My 1028 with 4" ORD shackle flip and new front springs , all from ORD required flipping the stock wedges on the rear spring perches , and shimming the transfer case crossmember 7/8ths " where it attaches to the frame . I used flat bar and drilled it for the bolts. I had a bad vibration and after...
I run my 1028 equipped with Gear Vendor OD at about 2310 RPMs or 65-70 MPH. I don't run it over 2400 RPM. Otherwise stock except for 4" lift and 37" surplus radials. Personally I think over 2500 RPM is too much for the 6.2. Just my opinion.
