Help assembling gas struts for slant back hatch

They are extended when resting. The installation is to hatch is to open up the hatch manually and over extend it so that the struts can be placed in their rested state. Trying to compress them sounds too dangerous for me!

Any good hummer mechanics south of Atlanta GA?

You can install a 6BT from the front so I would guess you can install a 4BT from the front also. Pull cooling stack. Mark all wires and lines. Disconnect motor mounts from block and perhaps from frame. Remove all other items from engine and go. For extra working room, remove front tire...

Help assembling gas struts for slant back hatch

See diagram in TM 9-2320-280-24-P1 figure 235. Each side consists of a long strut #33, a short strut #38, an outer tube #31 and an inner tube #37. The other parts are clamps and rubber seals. The outer tube should be on the upper strut, which is the shorter one mounted to the rear hatch, and...

Any good hummer mechanics south of Atlanta GA?

The rear body to frame mounting bolts are notorious for rusting together in one piece and you cannot get them easily. What I do is put a big open end wrench on the tub side nut and a 3/4" drive socket with big flex bar and force them to snap. Works every time for me on several hmmwvs. BTW, a...

    Fan stuck ON

The temp sender on crossover can be bypassed with jumper. By connecting/disconnecting the jumper the fan clutch should activate/deactivate. Regardless, the temp sender and the tdm are reasonably priced and spares should be kept. Good luck! And yes, fail mode is to keep fan clutch engaged to...

Question about NP-218 and NP-242 transfer case swap

Unfortunately Ron, you will need shorter rear half of the front drive shaft and a longer rear drive shaft. This is because the 3 speed tranny is shorter than the 4 speed.

    HUMMWV's

Remember, slant back hmmwv's leak when raining, snow melting or even in sunshine (lol). So plan accordingly when placing items in the bed and or under the turret. Plastic tubs are best.

m47 patton ord manual and 90mm gun anyone have one?

Thanks murphy. My father worked on those in Korea. He complained about the hot rod drivers jerking the joystick forward and then reverse to hard/fast, thus taking out the final drive. Those are nice tanks and I am happy to see another one in private hands.
