Because it wasn't needed. The 2 1/2 ton cargo truck is not the last resource for moving cargo for the US military. If things needed to be transported off road further than what a Deuce or 5 ton could handle, there are always helicopters. I'm not saying that you can't put lockers in your truck...
I think you are looking on the fringe of what the Deuce was intended for. It was said before that the Deuce was intended for use on paved and unimproved dirt roads. For this it is well suited. True, lockers in the axles would provide more traction but these trucks rarely traveled alone and...
Caster angle is what you are looking for. If you can't get it from the TM, you could probably ask a local alignment shop for the spec on a similar civilian model.
For what it is worth, Dodge axles run between +1/2 degree to +3 1/2 degrees of caster with +2 degrees being the preferred...
Eh, Roanoke is only 11 miles further than I have to travel, lol. Get a Duece and you can convoy with my Ramcharger since it's gearing keeps it around 50 MPH anyway, lol.
Unknown powders? Not I. I could send you some greasy scrapings off my axles or oil pan if you like, lol...
On a more serious note, I hope I can make this year's meeting. The Ramcharger is running pretty well and I hope to have something on it other than Boggers by late Summer, lol. Keep...
Think about it, when you angle the transfer case down, you are lessening the angle on the rear shaft, but increasing the angle on the front. You cannot drop a mated transfer case straight down unless you lower the entire engine, transmission and transfer case assembly. To keep the U-joint...
Do not lower your transfer case. It causes more problems than it solves. You improve the rear shaft angle at the cost of the shorter front shaft's angle.
I don't think a 440 would fit in one of those without serious modification. The hood looks awfully narrow. I have seen a few of those for sale and all seem to have an inline 6 cyl.
I agree that we should remember them somehow. Perhaps a page on the site with their names listed similar to a war memorial? I know Mike has plenty of other things to do but perhaps it could be considered as an addition to the site in the future.
Thank you, David! I knew someone here would have info on this odd looking truck. I wonder if it's worth saving? I believe it's located in WV. When I hear back from the owner I will inquire if it's for sale and see if it's ok to put anyone interested in touch with him.
So I saw this posted on Pirate4x4 as a possible donor of the Rockwell axles for an off road project. It may or may no belong here in the Deuce section, but it has Deuce axles but is probably has more in common with the older Deuce. Either way it will get more attention here I think. So can...
There have been at least two examples of the Honest John truck posted here at SS over the years. I do believe both were in very poor condition and not for sale/still owned by the Government.
