Agreed, it could be some other MV other than an actual tank, but then again, how is that a bad thing? What could be bad about finding a tracked MV, regardless of size or model?
Here's a larger version of the 30_small pic from the original post that shows the rollers in the front. Not quite as elaborate as the newer versions but I'm sure it does the job.
This will be my last post in this thread since it really makes my head hurt and I get the urge to strangle the life from something. I will say this, knowledge is not a measure of intelligence, it's what you do with the knowledge you have that is the true measure. Repeatedly you have shown a...
I think trying to carry a NP435 like that would kill my back, lol. And yeah, the granny gear is nice for creeping along. When you put the transmission in, red Locktite the 4 large bolts that mate the transmission to the bellhousing as they tend to back out if you don't. That's probably why...
Tell you what, you add the ARBs, the CTIS and whatever else you think the Deuce should have had to yours then let an endless line of 18 year old guys do with it as they please for 40 years and get back to us on how important and "optimal" your additions were.
CTIS will most assuredly leave you stranded somewhere in Mexico with no air in your tires. I would scrap that idea now, lol. That is one thing the Soviets did do much better than the US.
Why not start out with the USMC 5 ton as stated previously? More powerful engine, stronger components, heavier winches and rear lockers stock. Perhaps you should review a few of the threads already posted here concerning expedition type vehicles or maybe check out the expedition section over at...
ATC, I knock commercial winches and I even sell Warn winches. I don't like them and 99% of them fail if used regularly. There is a test done by an independent tester for Mile Marker on a couple of Warn winches that found that the winches would not pull their rated load and that the wire rope...
Yeah, it was right after Lee got his Deuce and he pulled out some sort of wheeled crane sunk up to the axles in mud. He used a snatch block, but it was still very impressive for a Deuce winch. I'm more than a little sure the post on The Zone got lost in one or more forum crashes and I don't...
You obviously aren't used to working with larger US military trucks. Damn near everything on there is underrated, meaning, the rating for that winch is pretty low compared to what it will actually pull. Don't compare them to the crap Warn makes and other commercial winches. The winch on the...
The stock 16 spline shafts in the 2.5 ton Rockwells are the weak link. The rest of the axle is very strong but the axles tend to be brittle and snap even in lightweight rock crawling rigs. Ouverson Engineering makes some nice 16 spline alloy shafts to replace them as well as the awesome 2"...
I'm not sure what vehicle that is they are shooting up. It looks like a lot of different vehicles but with a lot of major differences. It's an odd body line for a modern APC or armored car so I'm thinking it's a fairly old model. Maybe 1950s to '60s. I do know that the majority of the music...
CGarbee, thanks for the info. I have no problem with a fee for using the property. I figured there would be something since it is a business and hadn't seen it mentioned yet so I thought I'd ask.
ATC, hell, go even if you don't have a truck. I don't have my M715 anymore and don't...
