After my 4' lift and 37" Humvee MT (surplus),I went with a blue 38 tooth speedo gear and the speedo seems to be real close to actual ground speed. Also I measured my tires and they say 37" but are actually 36".
Hope this helps.
I had the same issue on my 1028.Left rear oil seal failed and ruined the drum and shoes. It was a good excuse for a complete brake job.I was surprised how inexpensive the wheel cylinders and spring kits were.
That scout car on Pawn Stars was a total arranged setup.I personally saw the vehicle in the owners yard in So Cal after the show aired. The producers looked for the vehicle ahead of production, and found it @ a well known MV collectors yard.It was never for sale as aired,it was "loaned"to the...
TINY TACH !!! 95 bucks.Simple install, very accurate digital display, lighted unit.I really like mine.Updates every 1/2 second.A must I think,if you drive yours on the freeway to monitor rpm's.Google tiny tach.
I found a metal plate about 2x3" riveted to the block behind the intake manifold near the oil pressure gauge fitting. It was hand inscribed with ser.#,overhaul date, and location of work,(Ft. Sill ,OK.)I was pleasantly surprised at the date,01/09.I needed to remove the air filter housing to access...
Thanks for the replies,I've decided to take the '98 Dodge Ram 2500 V10 4x4 to CO. I know the 1028 will make it with twice the mileage, but it will be twice as slow and the Sierras, and Uinta Mt's in Utah would be a crawl towing the M101a2 all loaded down.I'll save the 1028 for local trips to the...
In addition to whatever tires you choose,it is well advised to have 2 sets of tire chains(heavy duty truck with spring tensioners) for all 4 wheels.Where we hunt in CO.,they are mandatory no matter how aggressive your tire tread. The mud is the worst, and add incline without them your an accident...
I realize this is a speculative question, but I own an '85 M1028 CUCV that has 90,xxx miles on the odometer with an engine rebuilt /replaced in Ft. Sill,OK.I found the riveted tag on the block-rebuilt in 1/09.The vehicle was last assigned to the Utah NG,transportation motorpool XO's...
cucv upgrades
Well the list is getting longer, and the bank account smaller but I love this truck.

Mine is @ the radiator shop now.New core is 750.00$.Core is made locally by US workers of the OEM materials. No foreign aluminum core.Pricey, but I want peace of mind. That radiator in the 1028 is one of the biggest GM put in a truck of that GVW class.I could of had it repaired, but I don't like...
Some mechanical Tach's have magnets that attach to your harmonic balancer, then a sending unit picks up the signal on crank rotation. That might work for the unit you are interested in.I contemplated that route, but they are pricey,at least double the digital Tiny Tach's price tag.I prefer the...
When I installed my ORD 4" lift on my 1028,I had a few split flares on the old lines.NAPA sells SS lines in different lengths.Get a bender and duplicate the original lines.Pretty easy job. They also sell wire rapped lines if you would like to go OEM.I measured the OA length and bought a little...
Hundy @ 100dollarman.com (Mark) had 3 m1008,m1028s for sale in his yard about 6 weeks ago .They came straight from Barstow or Nellis I believe.I gave them the once over and they were pretty clean rigs. They were priced fair also, and were ready to drive away.He is in SoCal near Barstow.Good luck.I...
