Either that or you are losing prime between the lift pump and the IP. Have you replaced the line to the IP? You would remember it is a total PITA. Sometimes they rub against something and get a small hole in the line.
Let the drinking begin! Once you open her up get some picts for everyone because after all....nopics
Heck you knew it was comming. Sorry about your engine:(
Electric is great! I have changed mine over years ago (same reason) works excellent. Hardest part was running the wires to the switch in the front of the cab. Just go to an LKQ or any Pick a part junkyard and pull the switch and the motor. Mine bolted right in.
You know that the alternators on the cucv are not the same type right? One has an isolated ground, The other doesn't as they are both 12v alternators. Are all of your gen lights on? a blown bulb can disable the exciter wire( I think)
You may want to siphon a good portion of your diesel into cans and look for trash first. Access to my tank (in my 1009) was by carefully cutting through the floor in the back and building a patch piece (way easier than taking the tank off!) Take measurements and make the cutout at least 6X6...
I put in a 24v to 12v transformer. It works great and unless you need more than 20 amps you should be fine. I think it was like 40$ on Fleabay. I have underside storage in my m109 boxtruck. It works great and gives you lots of room.
Also look for corrosion around the ground at the battery and between batteries and where it mounts to the frame. Sand untill silver or copper and lube with dielectric grease and refit. May need to check where the starter grounds to the frame also
I thought diesels flashpoint was i the 300's and gasoline was in the 100's. I occasionally burn waste hydralic oil in mine. (around the farm only of course)
Chances are that any truck under 1K will be a basket case. I just paid over 1200 for one without a driveshaft, alternators or a transmission (Luckily, I have the parts) .Crazy how high scrap prices have everyone in the cucv business.
