    Road trip to Alaska

Wish I could go too. I did part af the MVPA transcontinental convoy last summer from Austin, NV to Stockton, CA. Road trips are great fun!

    5 ton lockout hubs

How would lockout hubs work on a truck with a sprag clutch transfer case?

    m416 brake drum ?

I think the drums are the same. Both the trailer and the M151 use the same unusual lug nuts.

    Does anyone double-clutch?

I double clutch, especially when the transmission has not yet come up to full operating temperature. I find it makes shifting easier, though it is not necessary. Double clutching seems to be a bigger help when downshifting - give the throttle a little bump when you pass through neutral. I...

    1962 M37B1 Marine version

Good looking M37. How does it stop with those big tires? My avatar shows what happens when you don't have big tires in the desert.

    M818 with the Family Pics

What, no pictures of Will Wagner's mug? Just kidding, nice looking 5-ton.

    Neighbor issue's here in WV

OK, I must tell my favorite "neighbor" story. I live in a semi-rural area and the neighbors seem ok with my vehicles. Guys ride quads up and down my street at times and there are several hot-rodders up the block. I got my first deuce from an active-duty Army recruiter. He lived off-base in...

From Russia with love - The ice capades

The vehicles are really neat. I pitty the poor sap who has to wade throught the ice-water to hook up the tow strap.

    Opinions?170 int. in deuce

What is the upper RPM limit of the Navistar engine? A stock deuce engine can turn at 2600 RPM under load, so it would be nice if the Navistar engine can turn at least that fast.

    CUCV #1 Gen Light

Both gen lights should come on when the key is in the "on" position and the engine is not running. The gen lights are part of the exitation circuit of the alternators and if the light is burned out or not making good contact, that alternator will not charge. Usually, reaching behind the dash...

    Purchase from Guam or Hawaii

A friend of mine looked at a 900 series cargo truck near San Francisco. The truck had just been shipped in from Hawaii. It was very rusty. When my friend opened the driver's door, it almost fell off in his hands. Needless to say, he didn't buy the truck. Beware of South Pacific rust!

My new toy / tow rig

Very cool (not just from the snow). It looks like it has the air-cooled compressor. You could always mount a fifth-wheel on the truck and make a long wheelbase tractor out of it. I believe that is a circuit breaker where the wire is frayed. The wiring bugaboos shouldn't be too hard to fix...

    Working the Deuce!

Very cool. What kind of tires are you running? Thanks.

    Found a 5 ton gasser.

That is a sweet old gasser. The R6602 is a great engine that has gobs of torque down low where you need it as well as the ability to spin at almost 3000 RPM. Sure it's a gas-hog, but how many miles per year would you be driving this truck? Let's say you put 500 miles a year on it. That...

    Axle Seal Gremlins!

Does the front axle have the little cork keyway plugs like the rear axles do? If they are missing they will let gear lube into the wheel bearings. I don't know the answer about the front keyway plugs. I'm curious because I have to do this job soon myself.

How do you mark your bumper?

My bumper was marked the last time I crossed a big ditch and ended up with dirt on top of the bumper. Seriously though, not being a vet I don't try to pass myself off as one. I also usually wear a club T-shirt or the one with the Atomic Cannon photo when driving the truck. The bumper was...

    mpg thread

Bone stock 1984 M1009 with 31 X 10.5 tires. Last weekend I got 18.5 MPG pulling a friend's WWII Bantam trailer at 65 MPH. We went 100 miles on 5.4 gallons (we topped off before heading out into the desert wilderness). Some of the trip was downhill...
