Also you need to remember that while the drum is only carrying half the load, the cable gets it all as well as any mounting point that the snatch block is hooked to. There are several good books on recovery as well as a few military manuals that can help you out and keep you out of trouble.
what size semi trailer? A 28ft or pup trailer would probably be ok but a 48ft trailer or larger would probably be a bit long. Might want to check the local laws about length and special permits if it's not a 28.
Then of course there are all the braking issues. DOT would probably have a field...
Geez, I thought mine was rough. Ditto on the tailgate, they are a pain to find. I wonder if that one couldn't be salvaged? I guess I am one of the few that hates a hard top on a MV. Just seems to take something away from it for some reason. Looks to be decently complete, if rather modified...
The unit bearings are a joke. There really is no substitute for a set of nice big cone bearings. The new Rams have a similar setup and it sucks just about as much as the late 70s version. I bought my 74 W100 because it was one of the few years that had the large 5" on 5.5" bolt circle, and...
The issue is with the design and drainage in the body panels, not the metal itself. Very similar to GM trucks of the same era. Anytime water and dirt can get trapped it will make short work of any paint or coating and eat out the metal. Dodges also have some of the strangest fuel filler and...
Maybe it's just my monitor, but Westech's truck looks darn close to the Guard trucks roaming around here. I should have clarified that I was speaking more of the brown color more than anything since that was what started the topic. I should mention that I mixed automotive paint for a few...
There are a variety of single pane sliding windows available for the RV industry that are flat. They are made in just about every size and configuration you can imagine. I think one of the "bathroom" sized window would work well for the back of a cab. Typical short, wide window.
Houdel, if the color and lighting in that pic is accurate on my monitor, it looks like your brown is very faded. the typical trucks I see here locally are much darker shades, more like Westech's pic.
Rubber will rot after a while. Best thing to use would be plastic from oil and antifreeze bottles. Pretty easy to cut, and will last forever. And since you can get them in black plastic, it should look pretty decent.
After looking at these pics over and over, I can't help but think that it's time to get a 5th wheel and a flatbed trailer, lol. How much room you got left, Tom? About enough to put on a M105 bed? That won't hold many logs. Just a thought...
Wow, that thing is huge! I don't know about the rest of these guys, but between the dual stacks, the Cat, the out riggers and the boom, I think I'm in love. As usual, very nice work Tom!
[whisper on] ::psst:: Hey guys, I'll be up Tom's way in a few weeks. You think I could sneak it past...
Just as a note there is an actual camo pattern used on Russian/Soviet BDUs that is red/white/purple. It is mostly used by the Spetznaz I believe for urban ops. I actually had a set on order from St. Petersburg, but after finding out the backorder time I switched to the more common Kamyish...
We have one for sale here at the dealership exactly like Stretch's bus. I thinkit's a Blue Bird body, but same International chassis, engine and all. I had thought of stealing the engine out of it until I saw it was an International non-turbo deal.
The M715 Zone had a server crash and we lost everything. Jon appears to be working on getting it back online with old backups. Might be a while though.
Miltrucks has already done this conversion before on a Deuce. If I remember from his site correctly, he used the 5th wheel from a 5 ton tractor because it was better somehow. Remember that you will also need some way to mount flaps behind the rears.
