Thats funny. I turn 19 in May. Nice to see younger people in the MV hobby.
My dad and I picked up our deuce back in July. I have never drove anything that big but I learned quick. Got the truck for a future business vehicle. Needed something awesome that could haul a bunch of lumber.
It is...
I have also wondered about mounting 395s on the 9x20 rims.
I will be needing new tires in a few thousand miles or less, or even sooner. It looks like the tires in the 11.00x20 size range, including ndts and g177s are getting in short supply and the price is rising. Is this true?
If you can't...
When my dad and I picked up our truck, we could have gotten a hardtop for $400 extra. Seems a bit much. I really wonder how much of a difference a hardtop makes in the cold. Are they insulated? Only bonus I see for having a hardtop is more spaces to mount cab accessories and a light bar.
Chains...
Well with the warmer weather this week I got a lot done and updated the tutorial accordingly.
Today we brought the radiator to Larson's Radiator just south in Norway MI. I was quoted $50 to get it tested but it ended up only being around $10. It was washed, steamed, checked for oil residue...
Here is a update.
Today after much difficulty I finally pulled the radiator. It appears the leak is in the lower tank behind the sheet metal aua. I have no idea how I could access the leak to solder it. Pulling the bottom coolant hose was the worst part of the job. I have no pictures, as I was...
Actually, I would call it more of a "energenic shatter". It looks like I will be getting a set of drain plug sockets. http://www.amazon.com/Sunex-2841-2-Inch-Socket-8-Piece/dp/B002GT5VPM/ref=pd_sim_sbs_a_4
It has the sizes 7/16, 9/16, 1/2, and 5/8, which is just what I need. I suppose they will...
Looks like I am going to upgrade to the valved fittings, after yesterdays issue. I borrowed a line wrench from my neighbor to loosen the draincock. I got that. However, it was recomended that I plumb in the intake of the circulating coolant heater to the 3/8npt fitting behind the starter relay...
Conveyor belt might work. I tried to cut up some 3/8 belt to put over some compost bins and the stuff laughed at every power tool I threw at it. Went through a jigsaw, sawzall, circular saw, chainsaw, and tin snips. :deadhorse:Ended up using a straight edge and a sharp razor knife. Took awhile...
Well looking through the TMs and diagrams posted here, it seems the bottle jack is best placed near the U-bolts/suspension mounts. I have not found mentions of jack stands in the manual. Perhaps there was not enough room to take them and they used cribbing instead. I take it a floor jack can be...
Today I went out to try and loosen the rear radiator draincock to install the tee for my coolant heater hose. I had to remove the air filter to get to it. The good news is the draincock turns to drain coolant, but I can not remove the draincock from the 45 degree npt elbow. I tried heating it...
The evaporator/sniffer is just a jar with input and output tube, and air bubbles through the alcohol, adding the vapor to the air lines to prevent freeze ups. They are usually homemade, but you can buy them.
I am looking for good info on how to properly use a bottle jack for lifting a axle on the m35a2.
I need to swap out a old tire with a new one on the front axle, and check brakes on the rears.
I have a 12 ton bottle jack with a max lift height of 18 1/2 inches and 6 ton jack stands. The basic...
Where do you get the elbow valves? Around here I only found 3/8 thread elbow valves, and I need 1/2 inch. When funds allow, my future setup will be to have a coolant filter parallel to the heater, with a cable shut off valve on the input hose.
Oh wow this got off topic quick.
Here is an update on the heater issue. This weekend was just too frigid to deal with pulling the radiator and draining the coolant. This week looks to be snowy and I will be too busy to do anything. It does look like we will be warming up into the 30's next...
I went out again today to install the control knobs and blower switch, and I have added the pics to the 1st page tutorial. This actually was the job that took the longest. It was mainly due to dealing with the cramped space between the steering wheel and seat, along with not having the proper...
Well I went out this afternoon to work on the truck again. It was sunny with a temp around 18F then at sunset the temperature dropped to around 0F. Wind chill advisory in effect. I got the damper elbow along with air intake installed...then I froze rofl
I updated the tutorial with pics from the...
The ether system works from inside the cab with a switch that delivers a metered shot while cranking. Although it seems safe, I was told using ether to start a vehicle regularly will make it depend on it. I know this is true if you spray it in the air intake by hand, but as for a metered dose, I...
What size batteries do you have? My battery box was too small for most larger batteries. I think my truck came from the south. Has a soft top, no rust, heater never installed. It does have ether injection. Hopefully the ether did not damage the engine, however the engine was recently replaced...
The truck did not have a heater originally but it came with a cardboard box containing a incomplete rusty heater kit. I cleaned everything up and figured out what was missing. I also made sure the heater core was still good. I really want to repaint every part I take off or add to the truck, but...
