Another catalog in the mail. Claims to be "the largest selection of books about the Jeep ever presented".
The publisher is Portrayal Press, and in case it's of interest to anybody here are some of the highlight pages:
Wasn't sure at first where to park this post (Armor? GermanWWII?). And only found one other post for "Kubelwagen".
Found all this when looking into the Fielseler Storch flown by Rommel.
Never heard anything about these myself until then:
During his North Africa operations, Generalfeldmarschal...
The German Wehrmacht fielded multiple command vehicles that had surface mounted "loop" antennas:
- These antennas frequently had a dropped leading-edge
Was this dropped/ drooped pattern serving a 1) signal function? or something else. Like maybe a practical 2) obstruction avoidance function...
Ran across this variant, and wondered if anybody knows something about it (amphib?).
The reference to it was "Sherman m4A2 BARV".
Link might be a better image than the static picture here:

Searched some and don't believe this thread is a duplicate, but glad to be corrected:
- Ran across some photos of a major piece of rolling hardware that apparently was a Command Vehicle used by Rommel with the Afrikakorps
- Thought originally it was German, but discover it was captured and...
rinob recently posted a photo of a Unimog, and in the background was a restored Storch.
I did a search but couldn't find a thread for the aircraft (I know, I know; I might have missed it).
Amazing airframe, it was state-of-the-art STOL (short take-off and landing); and so effective that...
Ran across this photo of what looks to be a Dodge of some kind:
- The photo description only noted the circumstance but not the vehicle (Americans coming through Paris during the Liberation, of August 1944).
I don't recall seeing this three-axle variant. Anybody got background about it?
Layoff; economy inching along; bills to pay; time to put new legs on an old plan/ dream:
* Re-purpose a deuce, and start my own small business
* Still a work in process (Tab A goes in Slot B), and the "money shot" (for my advertising) will follow later.
We'll see how it all shakes out. Keep...
Ran across this by pure accident. One perky little machine, and it swims, but I don't know if it's military.
Anybody know what it is? USSR, you out there?

Pages attached from a catalog received recently in the mail (www.fairfieldcollectibles.com).
Thought it might be of interest to some.
Mostly cars, but here are some of the MV's they stock:
From recent posting of a new member, regarding his 5-ton, but likely applies across the board for all MV's (with a hood that is, armor naturally excluded):
Any good reason NOT to install insulation like Kflex (i.e.trapping engine heat in the summer months, etc)?
I recognize it's a judgement...
Scanned a few posts about magnets in sumps (oil, tranny, differential), but missed any specifics about this particular item (see attachments). Cost is nominal. Recognizing as a magnet that it won't catch anything non-ferrous (i.e. brass, aluminum), but still can't see a good reason NOT to drop...
We all got opinions, but experience always speaks the loudest. The attached was pulled from another (separate) vehicle forum. Found other related threads that relate, but not addressing the issue specifically. Just curious. Any corporate memory or wisdom to share?
A tip on the studs or bolts...
Planning to drop a tool box service-body onto a Deuce (not yet purchased) and require some dimensions to get the process rolling:
- Cannot find these dimensions though in either the TM's or in any older thread.
Any chance somebody might have recorded these already (please see attached), and...
When I was Seabee Navy way back stationed in Port Hueneme (easy to pronounce but doesn't look like it), I recall either Deuces or 5-Tons (I couldn't tell the difference at a glance) starting up with an instantaneous musical whine, like the whine form a pneumatic impact wrench. My guess was it...
