A bad or dirty ground at the tank sending unit (or anywhere else for that matter) can cause funky gauge reading. Before getting too deep, you might want to check the sending unit ground at the tank and the frame (i.e. remove and clean to bare metal, the contact points).
You can drive forever at that RPM. Many folks driving M1008 at 55 mph are 2600-2700 RPMs. With my OD in my M1010 on 33" tires, I am at 2500-2600 at 65 mph. Go enjoy driving it. If you wanted a quiet vehicle, you bought the wrong one. ;)
I had that problem when my modulator went bad. Without vacuum working correctly, TH-400 trans will shift at the governor max RPM, which is set to 3400 on the 6.2L diesels. This is like a failsafe if the vacuum system fails while driving. It will still shift, just a max RPM.
Really wish these would have made it into the consumers in large quantities and they would start popping up used. I would love to have one and would likely keep me staying with the diesel. As it is, I will be moving to a 454 I have.
I thought at one point one of the bigger aftermarket companies (like Holley, Moroso, etc.) made an aluminum replacement pan for the P400 that would fit a truck without any mods. Not sure if it is still being made.
In the case of lighting, I am a function over form person. I did a TON of research on aftermarket LED lighting, from cheap China ones, H4 LED conversions bulbs, TruckLites, JW Speaker and everything in between. In a number of tests I found on LED lighting, the JW Speaker ones were hands down...
JW Speaker makes an awesome set of LED lights with heaters built in. I have the Evo 2 version without the heater in my Cherokee and these light rock. Will be getting a set of heated ones for my M1010.

Nope, just driving along and it acted like it was running out of fuel and finally died. Luckily I was able to get off the road. Would not restart. Had it towed home and started troubleshooting. Did new filter and was able to blead it without problems, cleaned the return check ball and made...
Having just gone through this issue myself, my solenoid would "click" but I wasn't getting any fuel through. After testing/trying a bunch of things, I decided to replace the solenoid anyways, with a good German made unit. When I compared the two, when installed, my old one "clicked", the new...
@Sharecropper had time to take a look and took a pic. Looks like it is advanced about what you describe. Haven't had time to try to do any adjustments and test drive.
Hi all,
Did a search and didn't find the answer. Trying to find out the actual real world curb weight of a M1008. When I say real world, like actually taken to a weight station and had it weighed.
I stripped my M1010 box down (actually the A/C unit is still there) and it weighed in at 6180...
Thanks for the pics. Looks great. Now I know where I can put my trans temp sender at. I heard you could use a port in the trans but no one ever seems to show which one.
@Sharecropper So could timing being too retarded or advanced cause what feels like less power than another 6.2? Reason I ask is my first M1010 seems like it had way more power than my current one. Both had similar mileage. Both started and ran fine, no smoke at start up or under load...
Also keep in mind, IF you do go for a 700R4 trans, you need to have the special, very rare and hard to find, TV cable bracket that goes between the injection pump and the TV cable at the back of the engine. Before thinking about a 700R4, get this bracket FIRST.
