Do you still have the suspension kneeling cylinders/hardware? I have a clunking noise which I believe is coming from the kneeling hardware bouncing around on turns and bumps.
Nice, I just changed over to the same 5W-40 for the winter and have 15 gallons of Transynd sitting in my garage waiting to be swapped in. It took Amazon 3 tries to get me a (mostly intact) shipment of motor oil. The first two shipments weren't even deliverable, and the third box was delivered...
It should be easy to spot if you have one, as Ronmar said it is a big butterfly valve assembly just downstream from the turbo. Up/12 o'clock on the retarder switch is for activating the exhaust brake when idling, it simulates putting a load on the engine to help it warm up faster. Down/6...
So the "50,000 hour lifetime" Grote composite LED tail lights and turn signals on my truck all have significant issues with burnt out diodes after ~330 hours of operation. Are these Grote lights really that unreliable, or can other issues cause these to burn our prematurely? What are some...
I finally replaced the disintegrated rear bushings on my cab, the improvement in ride quality is much greater than I expected - that A1R front suspension is STIFF. Does anyone know what the correct torque specs are for the bushing through bolt?
Haha, that is always my answer to people who ask how to level their new truck/SUV -- instead of installing some hokey leveling kit, just add some weight in the back!
Thanks all, further insulation and a more appropriate box heater are in the plans. I was hoping to find a way to make use of the stock heater this winter until I get a chance to replace it, but it doesn't sound like it is worth the effort.
Nice work, what did you use to attach the framing to...
Is there a way to operate the M1079 box heater using power supplied by the truck? The directions in the TM are pretty sparse and it sounds like it may need an external power source, but I thought I read somewhere that it was possible to run the heater using power from the truck.
After driving most of the way across the continent in one go, I can say that the exhaust brake is one of my favorite features on my truck. I leave it active at all times and it handles probably 95% of my braking outside of stop-and-go city traffic. I wouldn't want to drive one of these truck...
Awesome work!
I believe all the A1Rs are keyed the same, so if you haven't had keys made yet you can just order ones from the link below. I bought a pair and they work on my doors, they come with a core but were cheaper than the key-only options I found.
TriMark - Lock cylinder keyed tm202...
Quick question - why do the instructions call for leaving the shims in place? I've noticed on some of the install videos that they remove the shims, and after installing my eco hubs it doesn't seem like the shims serve a purpose once the gears are removed. Are they left in place to keep things...
My 1079 sat for sale for several months before I finally jumped on it, I was surprised and fortunate that it lasted that long considering how rare A1Rs are. But like you said it was probably passed over by a lot of folks because it had a high initial asking price of $55k and wasn't marketed...
I ordered a T6 based on what an Amazon seller said would fit and it was too big, so it is likely a T4. I have a C7, but I believe the turbo is the same size as the 3126. I just found this but haven't put a tape on mine yet:
Better late than never, here’s the trip report:
Day 1 – 421 miles – Green Valley IL to Kansas City MO
Day 2 – 750 miles – Kansas City MO to Spearfish SD
Day 3 – 0 miles – Troubleshooting wheel hop in Spearfish SD
Day 4 – 546 mile – Spearfish SD to Great Falls MT
Day 5 – 185 miles – Great Falls...
The stock number for my speedo was 62,618 pulses/mile, so you'd want to halve that with the Ecohubs and 3.90 gears. You can program it yourself if you have the Cat ET software and adapter cables.
Made it to the Alaska border late last night (yes that is midnight sun)! Just under 400 miles to go to get home, truck has been running like a top. I'll write replies and a full trip report when I get home.
To update this, the truck is running amazingly besides the wheel balance issues I posted about in another thread. I'm currently in BC Canada with limited internet service. I've driven bout 2500 miles so far, the ecohubs are awesome, I got approximately 10 mpg going through the mountains from...
Yep, I'm driving through Canada with intermittent internet service right now. Drove another 615 miles yesterday, the vibration/hop has been tolerable and still varies greatly depending on speed. It is worst around 55 mph/90 kph which is rough since that is the speed limit on a lot of the roads...
