    Weight of M1010 ambulance body

If I recall, the AC box part is 200 lbs, so if you remove that, that knocks some weight off, especially from a high point. That said, when I had to weigh my M1010 to get it registered in CA, it came out to 6300 lbs with a half tank of fuel. I used to own a '97 Cummins powered, extended cab...

    Starter bolt woes

You cannot compare the load on the starter between a gas and diesel engine. Even a rowdy SBC or BBC is likely no more than 12:1 compression, most are below 11:1. Diesels are typically 18:1 to 21:1 compression ratios. You are basically doubling the load on the starter and hence starter bolts...

    6.2/6.5 Turbo Build

I was just reading my Diesel Pages book I had bought back with my first M1010. It talks about the dual stats. Apparently the later model water pumps (like '94ish and up IIRC) had a much higher flowing water pump and needed the dual t-stats to get enough coolant flow. I guess the new pumps...

Turboing a 6.2l build (another one)

This is coming along sweet. Can't wait to see the final results and how it drives with the turbo.

My cucv burns up a glow plug every 3-4K miles

It sounds like the glow plugs are staying on too long or somehow cycling too frequently. You should easily get 50,000 miles from a set. Are you still running the wiring through the resistor bank?

    M-1009 heater hoses and thermostat

You likely have a bad sender or wiring issue. I don't think that light comes on until the 220* range. 195 is normal and I wouldn't blink much until it was in the 210+ range.

    Engine swap poll

I have been thinking 4BT. You can get some more HP/TQ with some light mods. Only downside I have really read about is they vibrate more than a 6BT or V8 diesel.

M1010 fire rig to camper conversion

I was more using the example of a plate style versus tube style cooler. Size for size, plate style has historically always been better and why almost all auto manufacturers have move to them. This was a huge thing back in my Baja Bug days. Now if you compare a tube style that is 3x bigger...

M1010 fire rig to camper conversion

Don't go with any tube type coolers. They do not cool nearly well enough at a given size compared to a plate style. Highly recommend B&M coolers!!! https://www.summitracing.com/parts/bmm-70274 This would be a great size to put in.

M1010 fire rig to camper conversion

Glad you got out and no serious problems. Looks like fun! I was reading the instructions for the B&M Hi-Tek cooler (plate style with fan) and it specifically says you must have air being pulled through the cooler. You have it mounted so the fan is forward of the cooler, in front of the...

    Firewall 12v connection current limits?

Why not use that trigger to run a relay? Then it won't matter how much current you need as you would use the appropriate rated relay.

    Engine swap poll

I loved my 12v in my Ram when I had it. Downside from what I have read, it is hard to put a 12v into a stock squarebody 4x4 without a lift. And 12v are heavy! They weigh almost as much as the 6.2/trans/transfer case combined.

Recently did the same glove box hinge mod. :)

    M1031 GP solenoid issues

I think that TM is wrong. By that method, the smaller orange wire would always be hot. Here is a pic of mine, all the orange wires are on the bottom large lug and the red wire coming from the battery is on the top one.

Installed civi Air conditioning in the m1009

Cool deal. Curious, what is that unit to the right of the oil filler?

New Member 1984 m1010 charging issue

Just for reference on the 12v side, normal charging voltage is 13.8 to 14.2 volts. 24v side would be 27.6 to 28.4 volts. Where are you checking your voltage? Is it at the alt output terminal or actually at the battery post? Verify at those two points and they should be within .2 volts. If...

Mega Score - Gear Vendors OD

I have been thinking more about this. I had done this on a Jeep Cherokee when I did an SYE kit. Never had a problem with it and I think the Cardan joints are rated for continuous duty but I'll do more research. Biggest downside is the cost of having the shaft redone but I guess if it worked...

Mega Score - Gear Vendors OD

Ah, never even thought about all the linkage. Talking to both companies, it seems the 5* operating angle is not recommended as it was recommended to be at 3* or less. Being this is the front u-joint, I am not sure how I would decrease that angle without dropping the back of the GV/transfer...

Mega Score - Gear Vendors OD

I had checked my driveline angles and thought they were in spec but after talking to Gear Vendors and the driveshaft shop, it appears they are not. It was too hot this weekend to play with angles but I think I am going to need to drop down my transfer case mount to get the front u-joint in...

Sealing Transfer Case Halfs Without Removing

Good idea. I am hoping it won't need to come too far back.
