I do have the software, and I legitimately paid for it.

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

I would have bought in a heartbeat but it's the wrong part for me.

People may sell them, but that's theft. These are copyrighted materials.

So is the M1161 a complete orphan vehicle that I should avoid?

So an update from my end. I never did post the thread at growlerforum. That's because I test drove the M1161 and although it was fun I didn't see it being a suitable off road vehicle for mountain usage. In addition, given the weight, it would be impossible to tow out of the backcountry. I...

Jefferson County Man arrested for unlawfully entering Fort Drum and stealing a military vehicle PRESS RELEASE State Police in Watertown arrested Nathan J. McElhone, age 46, from Theresa, NY, for the following: Robbery 2nd degree (C-felony) Reckless Endangerment 1st degree (D-felony)...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Still dealing with my defective heater core in the M1165A1. I rigged up a bypass hose today between the supply and drain lines and capped the heater core side hoses. Drove 20 miles or so and engine temp stayed rock steady in the low green and no fluid leaking anywhere. Looks like I'm back...

Rapco paint is no longer Gillespie?

During my brief career as a high school graffiti artist I learmed that rubber gloves are needed when using spraypaint to avoid telltale finger discoloration. ;)

    "D/F" painted over hoods.

I think it says "DTF", as in down to F you with repair bills. ;)

Taliban has more up-armor HMMWV’s than American citizens now!

I have been quite upset thinking about all the spare parts those Talis now have.

So is the M1161 a complete orphan vehicle that I should avoid?

One seems to have about fallen into my lap, an M1161 for sale locally. It seems to be in OK shape, I have to verify the year and give it of course a thorough inspection. The seller is asking a lot, comparatively, as he wants to make back his auction cost and something on top of that. Is it a...

The Good, The Bad & The Ugly

Technically not a "recall", but yes, it's a recall: https://www.steelsoldiers.com/threads/goodyear-mt-r-tires-safety-message.178785/#

The Good, The Bad & The Ugly

All HMMWV tires should be replaced on purchase, given the recall on the MTRs discussed in other threads. That's not surprising. The other issues? Par for the course, especially govplanet covering up a damaged windscreen with a sticker.

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

I think they only come as a unit. Maybe I'm wrong?

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

FML. Took the M1165A1 out for a drive today. Hot antifreeze starts dribbling on my son's legs in the passenger seat. Definitely a bad heater core, so now I have to replace the evaporator. Ugggh. A $1500 part and a full day of labor ahead. Anyone have a line on a bargain priced REV/ECV...

HUMVEE Speedometer - Removing Old Decals

Might be right, but I'd email Seco and ask. IMHO they have been reliable.

HUMVEE Speedometer - Removing Old Decals

I wouldn't be shy about getting the sticker off, worse comes to worse and you ruin the gauge -- that's cheap enough and easy enough to replace.

New Owner - Where to start?

I'm 6'4" and I don't find the driver's seat too tight . . . maybe swap out for newer seats and see if that helps?

    Buying price

One other stray thought . . . If hard doors (i.e., X doors) are important to you try and buy them on the vehicle in the auction. They have gotten pricey lately (like most HMMWV parts). The overwhelming majority of HMMWVs at auction don’t have doors since the armored Frag doors are removed...
