    No lights

Be especially happy that you are the first, as now you are the caretaker of what Uncle Sugar used to own. Look at easy access things first, plug connections, headlights, directional bulbs and sockets. And any kind of seals leaking, The Windshield Rubber leaking water into, behind the dashboard...

    M1028 4.56 to 3.73 ?

I have to ask but why not go and buy the truck you want to have? Really by the time you swap out the drivetrain with money and time involved you would be time and headaches ahead. Although 1 ton Chevrolets and GMC's are rare and hard to find they are out there. The very truck you want I have...

    No lights

Welcome aboard! Sometimes it is the little things that are not so obvious. Glad that you located the temporary non problem. At least you took the fuse out to minimize a potential assembly short. Now while you are doing some electric diagnosis, go and look over all your grounding points on the...

    Lets talk offroad upgrades .....

I have to agree with you. It all depends on the reason you have it to begin with. The military did not buy the equipment to Not Be Used. The equipment has a predetermined amount of value, time, use. After the time is up the equipment is sold for scrap and they replace with new equipment...

Turn signals not working - steering column wiring

And let me add that if you are going to jump wires never walk away from the job with jumpers on. You never know how long it will take to overload, melt other wires or connections.

Turn signals not working - steering column wiring

bshupejr, I can see that you have a chaffed wire or two, or maybe the fuse box NEEDS to be disassembled and the contacts cleaned. There is a grease type material that is supposed to protect from moisture but there is so much that after being repeatedly cooked from exhaust heat it melts into a...

Turn signals not working - steering column wiring

Have you checked all the light sockets for corrosion, side parking lights also? Are all the bulbs in working condition and of the proper bulbs? Is the trailer connector still installed, and has not been molested?

    7/16 starter bolts

I bought an 84 Blazer that had a similar problem though not as bad as that. Holed out and cracked length ways. I used a nut and bolt like what you had and drove the K5 for years before the compression went away. I got plenty of use out of that 800.00 bucks.

    7/16 starter bolts

There is another option. 6.2 Engine blocks do not have a robust reputation. The best blocks are 1982 red blocks. But the heads are one year specific because of injector threads. I like Detroits but the 6.2 has to be the most crack prone of them all. I would not even consider that a repair but...

    New guy from North Carolina

Retired MV's are still very useful as to continue with being used for their intended use or as a fun to own and drive to here or there. Of course these are my thoughts, and everyone here has their own reasons also, as do you. But you are on the right track as the 1009 is a very capable, rugged...

Well if you own or have worked on 80's Chevrolets, GMC's then you have some knowledge of the civi parts of the trucks.

    New guy from North Carolina

If you would like to purchase a MV do some searching into what kind of costs are associated with owning a 1009. The 1009 is part civi truck and part military truck. To own one either be prepared to work on and maintain yourself or you may need to find a mechanic that understands the military...

    New guy from North Carolina

Welcome, The Forum here I would say is not really a BOF per say but a Military Vehicle, Conveyance site. If you are into prepping I suppose you can find some information here but I like to say as a hobby I like the history of Military vehicles and what their purposes were, are. As for the 1009...

Progress is not always made in large strides. But small steady ones for me. Pile up the parts and just keep on making headway.

You may be making sawdust but there is no dust collecting on you. Your truck looks great. Just keep getting the bugs worked out.

    Topaz Mountain Debut Trip

Good looking truck, and some pics of your adventure.:driver: Keep them coming.:carnac: At least you used your brain and didn't panic and got yourself out of a tight spot. :wreckerman893: Do you have a CB in your truck? At the very least if you are OUT THERE you should have some kind of...

    Drive shaft shakes

Not knowing any history about the 1028, how long have you had it. Have you been driving the truck. Is it a new vibration or has it just started to vibrate? Are you in 4 wheel drive or two high? sneekyeye is on the right track. Check the pinion nuts, the drive shafts are famous for being altered...

    Holiday Weekend

I woke up the CUCV yesterday and went through my checklist for driving the 1008 around for doing errands, or just General Cruising. I know that most here keep their equipment in the best condition possible. But maybe just check one thing not ordinarily checked or passed by. Today may be the...
