What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

I drove the 1008 today to pick up some magnetic drain plugs at parts store and got home and kind of felt a little slack in changing gear selector from drive to reverse. Shut down truck, blocked wheels, put in neutral to check u joints. Now the bad news, seems that there is a little movement in...

After 300 mile roadtrip I got back home to slower speeds and a noidy off-idle rattle.

Very good Idea, Drock, had it happen, But down on power? Dump fuel filter in glass jar, check for contaminates.

    Death Wobble and Weak Hazards

It is funny that at some point almost everybody has experienced "Death Wobble". Most all symptoms and reasons have been addressed. Lift kits most times induce or "dramatize'' the effects, larger tires, puts increased stresses on all components and alignment is a critical part as toe in or out...

M880 alternative to Carter BBD carb??

The original carburetor is a fine and good design. Even a rebuilt carb properly cleaned with new maintenance parts will perform as the new one had. Blow out air passages good, then spray cleaner again, then air, repeat. The biggest problem is the reformulated fuels mandated by the government...

Front axles not working in 4 wheel drive

rustystud is correct in my experience. 4.10 in rear 4.09 in front. Civi of course. Now being new to military vehicles they may have same in both front and rear, but 3.08 in rear and 3.07 in front on the M1009 makes me think that possibly 4.56 rear and 4.55 is in front on the M1008. I will look...

M880 alternative to Carter BBD carb??

I also believe that the 500 Holley is a great fuel metering device that is very reliable and can be tailored to many applications.

M880 alternative to Carter BBD carb??

When I here fuel seeping from throttle shaft area I have to wonder that is a "lot" of fuel when it sucks more air when worn. Worn throttle shaft, hard to get idle, off idle air bleeds to work properly. A lot of times when rebuilt with new needle and seat, put in without seeing if float to...

    CUCV Grill

Having owned so many Chevrolet trucks, Good, Bad, Ugly, I would think to have a good knowledge of the Brand. Having four with current tags, 50, 56, 82, 85, and waiting on a plate for the 84 CUCV, I just went outside 6 degrees, and looked at the CUCV grill vs. my 85 K30 and is a match. The center...

    CUCV Grill

Yes I was afraid of that Barrman, but thought that maybe the military did not want the logo for what ever reason. I now have to find out if all years are the same or are applied to year made? I have bought new grills for different years from GM as available, and one from an aftermarket, to which...

    CUCV Grill

I bought truck at GovPlanet auction in June. Auction 900743 at Ft. Riley, Kansas. I have not mastered the way of posting pictures yet, being new to computer operations. I will have to figure it out one day, maybe with friends son. I do not know if that helps, probably not, but the truck came...

    CUCV Grill

Hello Steel Soldiers, I have a question about the grill on my truck. I have an 84 M1008A1, and when I acquired the truck I noticed that the grill seemed to be different from others that I have seen, or have yet to see another one like it. The center of the grill does not have the Chevrolet...

    Issues with SF-97

Happy New Year to Everybody on the Forum! And after taking my paperwork to the Missouri DMV provided from Iron Planet, the dated letter was enough to keep from getting any additional fees applied. New title process went easy as can be. New title from Mo. State received in mail, and will apply...

    Letting the crankshaft drop

Beetleswamp, since you have finished repair on rear main seal has everything been satisfactory since repair? I hope repair was worth the effort involved. Rear main seal on Chevrolet engines, at least to but not including LS series has always have been a challenge on longevity. Sitting for...

    1008 CUCV 4 Antenna Locations

Thanks for the interest and mutual quest in returning our MVs to their intended use. I am new to the use of computers so the picture end is quite new as well. As I purchased the truck from GovPlanet some pictures are available on that site. Auction number 900743 would get some pictures as...

    Letting the crankshaft drop

I forgot to add make sure to face seal the right way, as the seal is directional. Been awhile for my Chevrolet cranks. Spun number 4 rod bearing on 98 350 engine. Looks like I have another project coming up.

    Letting the crankshaft drop

I have never had to nor would I let crank loose to get rear main seal out. May cause a host of other problems. Spun bearings, goodbye crank. I have replaced rear main rope seals of all types. Not fun, being patient pays off. Several great responses, copper wire, my favorite, different gages...

Deuce crash in Winston-Salem, NC, 11/2017

Very SAD and Very Unfortunate. A roll of the dice and both lose. Free Travel is a Right. Traveling in a motor vehicle on a motorway is a PRIVALIDGE. "If" and I mean if the man had been cited before for motoring the vehicle on a public thoroughfare then by current statutes he has committed an...
