Saw some bad reviews about some Bel Ray oils in a quad forum, but not about the brake oils. Funny thing is that both the US and the Czech site for the Maxima dot 5 oil use a picture of a bottle of dot 4 oil, also not very encouraging
Trying to find Dot 5 braking fluid here in the Czech Republic, a few brands but all different from what I used in the Netherlands and these are not common brand names in continental Europe. Is there any quality difference between the different brands or is it 6 of the one and half dozen of the...
Then came the paint. After the first brushes, it was clear that it was way too light. However, it was Friday afternoon before a long weekend, probably the last few days with really nice weather. And since the truck will be sand-blasted and painted in the real color after restoration anyway, I...
Goodbye RAMBO
Painted my truck: goodbye RAMBO
A bit of a catch 22: to get veteran papers for this truck in the Czech Republic, it does not have to fulfill any technical checking (this I knew) but ... the vehicle must look 8-). Can be a technical wreck but the outside must be ok (this I did...
Suprman, I answered a similar question in my other thread
swbradly, these batteries were out of the car for 16 months, started the car once in November, slow but without problems and once in summer, ditto. Now it was taking too long, so I thought to load them. Then I found out.
As mentioned in...
I have a similar problem with a Hawker Armasafe Plus 100 Ah battery from 2007 (this thread). After reading up on battery technology and maintenance, I am looking into buying a Pulsetech charger - desulfator. The link shows the three models mentioned below on the same page. Pulsetech has a nice...
Did you manage to find out what the problem was? There are several threads on M39 (the M5x series trucks) 5-ton brakes running right now. I am starting to work again on my M51A2, lost my oil.
I am not sure a problem in the air system could cause this.
Different question: I am restoring an...
We used a power cleaner to clean the truck before painting, and I had a better look at the paint and lettering.
Correction from first post: All decals are actually painted, no vinyl. The bridge marking reads C 01 (thanks gunboy). Maybe the 0 and the 1 are switched and it should read 10 or...
Read through several of the "which paint number" threads and read part of David Doyle's section on markings and paints. The only thing I now know is that I am not the only one guessing and confused.
:lost:
Our M51A2 was presumably built in 1973, right in the period "early seventies" when...
So mine is 1973 M51A2 stationed in Europe at least for part of the time.
Probably the history was a bit more varied than I thought, since there seem to be a few layers of paint on top of each other. Besides, the never used brand new spare tire has a brownish top coat with a greenish paint...
brake pedal pressure gone after winter parking air pressure ok
Started a new thread, then thought it would be better continue this since it deals with similar problems.
Subtitle says it all. Started to work on the truck, build up air pressure, pushed the brake pedal: nada nic nothing zilch...
The mentioned TM...35 is digitized by google and is now in the public domain, that is, free of copyright restrictions for personal use. You can download it for free without restrictions or having to have a google account.
So if you desperately need the additional info from the pics, this might...
This link gives the TM...35 with good pics on-screen instead of the grey and blacked-out pics from the manual on this side. To be honest, did not help very much for what I was looking, but it might be useful to others.
I did replace the oil and while trying had the wheels turning left and right, but the problem remained. That was in July 2012, truck has not been driving more than a few miles since then, still the same problem in summer 2013 and now.
Part of the problem is the sometimes intimidating size of the parts and being alone here without quick solutions if something breaks or needs replacement. Taking a deep breath, let's do it.
Taking the air hose for the arctic heater away helped a lot for getting as better look. Taking pictures...
Thanks Ron, I was hoping you would chime in.
Just went trough the TMs again with a magnifying glass to figure out the steps. TM ...35 page 151 actually has a schedule showing this relieve valve installed similar to mine. Reading a bit further, it might be indeed installed later (by the...
Two useful websites to help translate the codes.
The Federal Standard paint spec site gives the RGB Hex code of that specific paint, universal color coding system. On the RGB Hex site, you can put the hex code in the search field completely at the top of the page, click get info and you get all...
Swiss, is this the same assembly as on the M51A2 multifuel? Any further pics on taking the assembly out and putting it back? I am starting with the same job this week, so am looking through all threads for possible heads-up and save short-cuts.
