Actually, the second driver has to make sure his truck stays straight behind the towing truck; slowing in corners or not being straight behind the truck would be a problem because the second truck would push the rear of the first truck sideways. However, I think with a heavier towing truck...
.
As said, no US military stuff available unfortunately. In Europe, a standard tow bar is just a very heavy tube about 6 to 9 feet long with an eye at each end. One eye goes into the fish-mouth coupling of the towing truck, the other in the front connector of the dead duck, ready. The standard...
Yes I read and searched. Just too many different answers and not applicable on my situation. Also, I live in the Czech Republic, Europe, so the typical US shops or rentals or whatever are not available to me.
OK, to business: I probably will end up towing the truck to its winter location, about...
Re-assembled the control valve assembly
Put the steering back together again today.
Before doing anything I loosened the steering gear box adjusting nut a quarter turn. The pronounced clack is less, but I have a lot of free play in the steering wheel. Still the left turns goes hesitant, right...
The whole set-up actually looks like these caravan - camper (RV) window sets you can buy here. Or the old windows for the person box on the older Avia civilian or V3s army truck (Czech Deuce) small truck. I mean those strange square boxes they had instead of a cargo bed.
Did a day of shopping and I think/hope I got everything. Tomorrow everything has to be put back and work since the truck has to move 15 feet to make room for some wood for burning.
I took the two old hoses connecting the valve assembly to the power cylinder and had new ones made. 10...
Maybe a good idea to add some thoughts to this thread on how to preserve items directly after they come out of the electrolysis so to prevent they start rust immediately again. I can spout some ideas what I think but that would be without any basic knowledge on the topic. Not talking about when...
Maybe the fact that I have about 12 or more tabs open while working might play bugger also. Some of the text of already posted stuff stays in the reply section, but this one stayed empty regardless what I tried. O well, lose a few.
I found a good larger company specialized in hydraulic stuff. Showed them the valve assembly and the guy there saw no reason to scrap it. He actually had the seals on stock and, very big surprise, even the hose connectors. The seals came to a dollar and twelve cents for all three seals (two...
Happened again. All looks ok, I seem to be logged in, start write a reply, then decide to "go advanced" and suddenly up comes the warning it is not possible because the token has expired (and yes, the remember me box is always checked). Reload, or back button or whatever, but my carefully...
De-rusting some of the hydraulic control valve assembly of a 5-ton
Trying to get the rust of the actuating lever of my M51A2. Reading up the alternatives including vinegar and molasses, steelypip came up with the idea of electrolysis and I thought to give it a try. Checking older threads...
I was thinking about that, but with the steering wheel being of some kind of non-metal material (not really plastic), I was afraid to melt the thing. Might try that later. However, it might not be necessary; the line-up seems to be ok. If we ever get enough funding, I might take the whole...
With this official puller, somebody ever experienced that you destroyed the steering wheel and still the thing did not come loose? On the underside of the wheel, close to the jacket, you can see some shiny metal. For me, it looks like that is part of the bearings, so I try avoid hitting that or...
Took an hour off and checked on the truck.
Took another picture of the mess and then made a nice contraption on our vacuum cleaner to reach those awkward places to clean the area before taking out the two washers. Seeing it the first time, you would not think anything can be taken out of...
Actually, its only the area around the control housing that is rusty, inside the control valve unit things look very nice to me. If I had the $$ and lived in the Netherlands or the US, I would replace the whole steering unit in one go including gear box and steering shaft. However, I haven't and...
Did not have time to do some work yet (taking care of my sick grandson), will be Sunday.
The TM did needed some deciphering here and I am trying to avoid doing something stupid and maybe messing things up, so just a quick check if you don't mind.
Below is the earlier pic of the mess on the...
12.6 volt is not very much. When I started and thought they were loaded, I had similar. After switching from slow to quick and back and leaving them on the loader for a few days they came up to 13.6V, even a few hours after the loader was disconnected. Maybe that is typical for these armasafe...
I am getting Czech veteran papers for my car now. That process includes me having to become member of something like the national veteran cars register. The Netherlands have something similar. These are not state, but recognized large non-profits mostly with political lobby as well. Does not the...
That is what I miss here, somebody to work together with, including the shouting. I used to discuss these things with my brother but he passed away 3 years ago.
Let's take this stupid thing one step further. The steering got worse and worse quickly, that is, only a few miles driving but months...
