Recon Charlie Alpha - thanks for the input. Some of those milpack radios are very expensive for what you get, and most are not rack mounted. But there are a few good ones in there. The GRC-106 is probably one of the better ones that I would use, for 2-30 MHz TX and RX. However, it's USB and...
Lots of good info, Alpha, thanks!
I hear the "civvy radios are better" opinion. And to some degree, on some bands you're right - especially 2 meters and it's surrounding regions. However, I've found military radios to be more rugged (I've beat them around moving them and they took it in...
I'll poke them too, just wanted to see if anyone here, maybe OPCOM or another commo expert, could weigh in. Remember, if I don't ask, there is never an answer.
Project for next year is to build and design a S-280 radio shelter that would be my ham shack, that could be a semi-permanent emplacement here, but could also be mounted in the future to a M923/5 series truck for bringing to shows so I could run my ham gear on site. It will also be a camper...
Hot wire it. All a keyed switch is, is a way to secure an electrical connection between the battery and the starter. Find the wires behind the panel that go to the keyed switch, and connect. Easy.
From wikipedia:
"Hot-wiring generally involves connecting the two wires which complete...
Nice truck, looks like you have a good start, a truck without a lot of damage or cancer. I actually like the yellow on it. I' remove the spreader and the plow mount, and maybe repaint a shade darker yellow, like the Navy uses on forklifts, and stencil as a Navy truck....
Cool video - seems like a nice guy, but I've never met him. However, now that you guys inform us he's not Russian, I always kinda noticed that his "accent" wasn't right. I've dated a few Russian ladies in the past 6 years and I know what a real Russkie accent is, and his just sounded a bit...
The prices of the M101 series trailers are slowly creeping up as the govt. stocks go down. However, the prices of the M1101/1102 are coming down from what they were when the just started coming out. Supply and demand, simple.
I went and saw them at the yard again and I was wrong - it was sitting in a M105 trailer, just the tires were flat so the trailer looked lower to the ground and hence my confusion.
I took a picture but the picture came out all wonky on my camera phone. I'm gonna wait until later this year to...
Few pics of what I saw there, and the boarding ladder I saved:
Pics 1-2, the 6-step boarding ladder, nice but a slightly damaged step.
Pic 3: where forklifts go to die.....
Pic 4: nestled back in the weeds, a M332 trailer waits for rescue
Pic 5: Fiberglass troop seats, looks like for deuce...
I think I paid $200 or so for mine when I bought it from DRMO out of Chambersburg PA in 1998, and it was BAD. Very rusty and 14 layers of paint, one wheel was locked up and wouldn't budge, the brake system was shot, the wires were rotted off and the light housings were cracked. By the time I...
