    Brakes, Oh, My!

We got to the front axle today. Disaster loomed! The front wheel bearings, driver side, were rusted, yes I mean rusted. Appeared to be in that condition for years. All seals and bearings replaced on both sides. There had been no symptom of trouble prior to the brake job. Got lucky, I guess.

    M939 Lightweight Weapons Station question.

I think they used the M66 ring and common mounting legs with the deuce. The difference is the mounting plates on the legs are different for the five ton.

    Brakes, Oh, My!

An update: Rear axles contained one defective wheel cylinder, one OK but needing replacing, two bad seals. Both bad seals were old and cracked. We move to the front axle tomorrow. All new shoes, wheel cylinders, brake mounts and turned drums complete on four wheels. New flexible rubber...

    Brakes, Oh, My!

The brakes failed, leaking cylinder on the driver's side front rear. To the shop. Rear axle, passenger side, leaking brake cylinder, slick shoes, no braking apparently. Front rear axle, passenger side, leaking seal, minimal brake. Front rear axle, passenger side, leaking wheel cylinder as...

Have the seller remove the spent casing deflector, two bolts, and save some money when it gets to you.

    A Word for the Wise

I began working on a brake job about ten days ago. I needed more of the brake shoe mounting hardware. I ordered from OD Iron. Paid two day delivery. Came today. Six days in the hands of UPS. DHL delivered from TNJ Murray in only four days normal delivery. Mike at OD Iron says something is...

Oil filter woes just about fixed...

May I suggest that the installation of the jatonka spin on filters will solve all those problems and many more? Just a thought, of course. I put them on mine and will put them on the new deuce next month, first thing. Too easy to install and all those problems go away.

    Mirrors, I Need Mirrors

They are the West Coast type. The mirrors are fine, the mounts look awful.

Gasser value (Now home w/ new pics...)

The bracket by the door is used to mount the front leg of the M66. Two more are at the rear. You need the reinforcement plate at the back of the cab, also.

    Mirrors, I Need Mirrors

My mirror mounts are in sad shape. Bent and beyond straightening. Where can I get some nice strait ones? :?:

    Stone Shields, Anyone?

I am getting new stone shields for the front bumper on my M135 made. I found while duplicating the M35 cabin brace that it is not a great deal more expensive to make a dozen or so at the same time. I am going to make up to 12 sets of the shields, if anyone is interested. Same shape, same...

New GL Buy from Norman, Okla

Some fender damage on the driver side front and the headlight on the passenger side is missing. I will know more when I inspect it in a week or so. Looks to be a really good buy. Airshift front axle.

    brake problem on the 109

I am doing a complete brake job as we speak. My pedal went to the floor a couple of weeks ago. It was apparent that the forward driver's side rear brake had a leaking wheel cylinder. On removing the passenger side farthest to the rear drum it became apparent that a small leak had occurred for...

AVM vs Ouverson: take a closer look!

Assuming they both killed rats, I would toss either into the trash with the dead rat and simply be glad either did the job. You might try comparing being hung with a new rope as opposed to an old rope by comparison.

AVM vs Ouverson: take a closer look!

Sizzle, unlike steak, cannot be eaten. The only point was a 'sizzle' argument is not much of an argument. And, as I have said before, either hub will probably last longer than the truck will be used. Just take your pick, without disparaging the other guy's product. For only a few dollars...

AVM vs Ouverson: take a closer look!

First, I have no personal stake in any of this. Second, I have watched engineers and machinists argue for years about tolerances, machining and 'quality.' This entire thread is about a disgruntled machinist's hurt feelings when he attempted to 'correct' the engineers and manufacturers of the...
