    Virginia Steel Soldiers Rally 2009

I want to thank everyone for making us feel at home in your group. I know a 151 is a little small for you guys but we had a great time and will return next year. Have some pic's and will get them up tonight if I can find time. Rick

    M1009 with 15k miles won't start

No matter what I would not leave the mechanical pump on. You have to pull it off to see what is going on with the rod so even if you don't use it you are sure you don't screw up the cam. An electric pump will take care of a lot of the start up problems you have been having. Rick

    M1009 with 15k miles won't start

You will set up a serious imbalance in the batteries that way. When charging you will over charge one in order to bring up the other. Rick

Yup, A 24 volt short will do a lot of damage REAL quick! You say you bent an injector line, that may haunt you also. Believe it or not that can change the timing on that cylinder and create one hell of a knock. Just keep that in mind when you fire it up if you have a strange sound. Rick

I got all but the -20, for some reason Adobe tells me it is damaged and can not be repaired. Thanks Rick

    M1009 with 15k miles won't start

This is obviously not your first time around an engine but keep in mind that this is not a gas motor. Check the crank very well since that is usually the first to go with ether starts. It will break right after the second rod. Do not under any circumstance bend any of the injection lines or you...

Ranger, I would be interested in those also. You could zip the file and then e-mail it. Rick

    M1009 with 15k miles won't start

The CDRV probably just needs to be cleaned out. Blowby is basically smoke and oil vapor but mostly smoke. It is what leaks past the rings during the ignition of fuel. I have never heard of cleaning rings. How many miles are on this engine? The rings should be good for 100,000 with no problem...

    M1009 with 15k miles won't start

All diesels have a fair amount of blowby, that is just the nature of high compression. The blowby is controlled by the CDRV, Crankcase Depression Regulator Valve, mounted on the top passenger side of the engine. You can't really "blow" rings out short of breaking them. Be sure you keep ALL of...

    M1009 with 15k miles won't start

Yes I was talking about the lift pump being a pain to replace. The injection pump is not all that hard to do. The hardest parts is getting all of the injection lines off, especially the two on the bottom. Timing is CRITICAL on these, if you get a later pump it will not have the timing line...

    M1009 with 15k miles won't start

I agree that it sounds like air in the lines although these are pretty much self bleeding unless there is air before the pump. Make sure ALL of the return lines from the injectors and the one from the pump are hooked up and clear. If the return line from the pump is blocked or severely...

The only thing on these trucks that is 24 volt is the starter and the military radios. Everything else is 12 volts including both alternators and all lighting. Rick

If the vacuum line you are talking about is what I think it is that is for the transmission. That determines the shift points. Send me another e-mail with your phone number and I will give you a call this evening. Rick

    Transmission Swap CUCV 1008

Mangus, You have me curious, Without the overdrive column how do you get the right gears? The detents in a three speed column are not going to match the four speed column. Rick

    Transmission Swap CUCV 1008

Find yourself a 700R4, preferably out of a diesel blazer but any of the R4's should work. It would be a good idea to rebuild it with heavy duty parts and you will need the flywheel and converter for the diesel. I do not remember if the driveshafts have to be fabbed or not. You will also need the...

    M1009 with 15k miles won't start

The 6.2 will always need the glow plugs to start even if it is hot out. Once the engine is warmed up you don't need them. Do NOT use ether!!!!!!!!!!! The compression on the 6.2 is 21:1 and you will blow the head gaskets right out. You could even bend a rod. The 6.5 is 17:1 and I still would not...
