The thermostat in the multi is used to balance coolant flow between the radiator for cooling and recirculation back through the engine to prevent hot spots; I suggest keeping it. You really have nothing to gain by removing it.

It is in 6x6 in ALL gears. Read up on the operation of this transfer case or jack up a front tire and try it out. The transmission linkage only switches from the forward sprag to the reverse sprag. The forward sprag is engaged by default. This has been beat to death in many other threads...
I believe that the TM recommended this when going from the old style to new style pressure plate (3 to 4 finger or vice versus). There is a thread out there somewhere describiing this.

This is a 1930s technology engine. 2HP / cubic inch is very difficult and expensive. Anybody who says "it can be done with relative ease" is lying to you.
