Took the dogs to play in the snow and **** near got stuck in a snowy/muddy mess of a hole. My BFG all-terrains filled with mud and it took about 15 iterations of rocking and turning to get out of there. Without the locker in the rear and the posi up front I would have been good and stuck in no...
Now where's the fun in that!?
Also, you could get two and a half of these for the price of that: http://www.amazon.com/AGPtek%C2%AE-Professional-Digital-Tachometer-Contact/dp/B004Q8L894
As you may know, the alternators on our trucks (AC Delco 27SI units) have an RPM output signal, which on GEN 1 is hooked up to a buffer circuit and then output to the STE/ICE diagnostic connector under the dash. So far I've been unable to get a useable signal from pin c on the diagnostic...
You should never use 4WD on pavement unless theres dirt/snow/or something else slick on top. When you turn the wheel on the inside of the turn rotates less than the wheel on the outside, and the wheels on the front will rotate differently than the wheels on the back. Eventually something will...
The switches are from http://www . otrattw.net but they didn't have a glowplug icon. Luckily you can replace the text on any of their rockers so I did that for their aux power rocker. Hopefully they get a glowplug icon soon so I can swap the rocker out and it will look even better.
On that...
After doing my 12 volt conversion I wanted a way to isolate the batteries when the truck was off so I installed a 200 amp solenoid between the front and rear batteries. It was switched on as soon as the truck was so that both batteries would help start the truck and then get charged back up...
I know each alternator charges a single battery, but with this setup you could charge both batteries with one alternator and still retain 24v starting.
Edit: This is also mostly mental masturbation when I was sitting around waiting for truck parts to get here this weekend :)
Just a quick thought the other day. It would be nice to have switchable 12/24v where you can parallel the 12v batteries or series them for 24v if you wanted to slave someone or be slaved yourself. It would also be handy if you ever needed to do some emergency welding. The circuit I've attached...
Autozone got the radiator in. 3 core, just like the one from amazon and the one I pulled out of the truck. What gets me is on Spectras site it says 4 core, ncore width is 2.5 inches. Mine is definitely a 3 core and just under 2 inches wide.
Last time I called autozone they said they couldn't order it, hence amazon. I just called back, they'll have it in tomorrow, so we'll see how it goes. Supposedly its the same radiator though.
Just got in a new Spectra CU850 radiator and even though it is advertised as a four row everywhere, it's a three row. I thought maybe I got a funky one, but comparing it to the radiator I took off my truck it is the exact same. It has the same "made in mexico" tag on the straps that go around...
Today when I took apart the passenger side hub to grease the bearings I found out that it was assembled incorrectly and was locked in. As far as I know it's been like that for at least 4k miles. The driver side hub was not locked however I noticed that with just the passenger side locked the...
Just picking up an Explorer I loaded to family while I was OCONUS for a few years. I need another vehicle with AC out here plus it would be great to have a truck to run to the auto parts store when the M1028 is down and the wife has the car at work.
I'll probably only be in Simi for Tuesday and...
Usually when I start my truck in the mornings, and only in the mornings, after idling for a few seconds it will rev up a bit and stop responding to throttle input. After a couple seconds it will usually stall as well. If I rev it a bit right after starting, it usually won't do this. It also does...
No reason that a 12v conversion should be done poorly. The the roscommon pdf makes it pretty simple and perfectly reversible. Going to 12v doesn't invalidate a lot of the TM, you just have to know what you did and how it will affect things.
New starter installed, got the correct support bracket...
When I say cranking slow, I mean it will turn over once, and then stop. I'm pretty sure it's the starter, it didn't want to crank at all even though the new starter relay was clicking. Crawled underneath and gave the starter the old tap-tap with a hammer, and it turned over a few more times...
Got the glow plugs replaced and wired to 12 volts. I also replaced the small Interstate batteries that were in there with two refurbished group 31's from Interstate. I went to start it and the truck turned over once, really slowly, and that was it. Let it sit for a minute and it will turn over...
I have the tm's and started going through them last night before the batteries died, but I was hoping you guys might have some other suggestions for more common areas to check first. I also tried plugging the exhaust, but I don't think it helped much because its a dual exhaust.
It looks like...
