I'm not saying "go for it" but I towed my V-18A/MTQ (heavy!) almost 200 miles behind my deuce, and it went flawlessly. Stopping was no problem though I planned my stops well in advance. Steering tracking was no problem, we were ready to jump out and turn the wheel but never had to.
Other...
Thanks for the info Ron, I was mixed up.... I read about tractor protection valves and understand now.
So the 2.5 ton trucks and 800 series and older 5-tons do not have this TPV? These trucks have air-hydraulic brakes, is a TPV really necessary?

When I used to hear people talk about the government spending $600 on a toilet seat, I would say, "Sure... The Space Shuttle has a very expensive, specialized toilet seat."
The same could be said for the hammer.... Are we sure it's just a regular wood handled claw hammer or is it some stainless...
Huh, I guess I just assumed that all M818s had the tractor protection valve.... Why don't they? When did these valves fall out of favor and why?
....The M275 tractor I'm trying to buy has one on the steering column....

Be sure you get it right, if you hook it up wrong your oil pressure will be negative. ....bearings sucked full of air and your oil pump blowing bubbles in the pan...
Marti may prefer the pink copper gaskets with the separate fire rings and obviously has had good luck with them, but that is the old style gasket that is prone to failure.
I've got a line on a nice M275 tractor, 1966 all original... It's still non-turbo with horizontal exhaust! I'm negotiating a price, though not too seriously because I don't quite have the money in hand yet. And if that deal somehow falls through, there are others around or I could convert a...
Yeah, I got the one that has a training center logo and says "weaponeer" on it... I got to see it last week, it looks pretty good. I'm going to do an RV trailer conversion like yours. The cheesy box hanging there used to contain a generator but is empty now. I'm going to remove it...
I have all the manuals for the old gassers. For general maintenance of the whole truck you need TM 9-8022, and it has tune-up info in it. The engine overhaul manual is TM 9-8023-1, there are copies of that on eBay right now. Both of those manuals only mention the Holley carb, for the Zenith...
It doesn't have planetary hubs on the axles does it? I've seen pics of some airport runway vehicles that had these on them, otherwise they were regular civilian vehicles.
Hey Group,
I'll be recovering an M146 trailer from Barstow some time probably in mid-June. I live in Hesperia, about 45 miles south of Barstow but I don't have a (roadworthy) tractor yet. I'm planning to have either G&M Towing & Recovery or Barstow Towing do the job, but if anyone in the...
My OA-331 powered V-18A/MTQ has a fuel return line, and it is shown that way in the manual. The bypass valve and return line is above the primer handle on the fuel pump on the side of the engine, below the distributor. I don't really know what would happen if that line got clogged, but it...
Thanks for the info... I wasn't sure what you meant by quick disconnect axle, but I looked in the manual and saw it. (I haven't taken delivery of the trailer yet, waiting on EUC) Very interesting design, I assume they did it that way to reduce weight?

Certainly it's prudent to be careful, but it's been getting PMed around plenty here. I have zero respect for a law that allows me to own a trailer but not it's owner's manual. The Patriot Act is the exact opposite of Patriotic. I wish someone really were listening, I could give them an ear full.
