Here is a question for Bruce, GIJoeCzar, or other 900 series gurus...
The operator's manual and dash placards on the M939 series state "Do not back up with transfer case lever in low range." I have heard about blown transfer cases when you do. I would like to know is this a design defect...
It made a great weekend having a few different steel soldiers to drive. I took all of the trucks shown here (plus an M1008) out for "manuevers".

I put my towbar to use for the first time with the M35A2. It pulled real nice behind the M911, keeping a speed just under 50mph. All the overpasses look low when riding in the HET, not the mention the fact that you can look over the top of most semi trucks.
Anybody know about early 80s White cabovers used by the military for carrying 20' ISO containers and command centers? I remember seeing 2 or 3 up on GL recently (Alabama?). Anyone have a link or pictures to that?
Here are some pics, as requested. These are military takeoffs. Rims are 8 bolt two piece with runflats and tires are bias 36x12.5x16.5. Two inch spacers used on each hub and 2" inch lift and fender trim was done by prior owner. I plan to run the 12 bolt two piece rims with 37" radials on...
Check out the 2+ dozen winches available at Barstow - A1 condition. Are these from the 5 ton wrecker? If anyone is buying and planning to pick them up, please let me in on the deal.
Does anyone know where to find M35A3 wheels for sale? I know one of our members got a quote of $700 from Hayes Lemmerz International, Inc. but I was hoping to come in a little less than that.
SpicerGear, do you still have a line on some?
I saw this picture of an M1070 Heavy Equipment Transporter (HET) stuck and it just made me smile. :) A little turn of the CTIS dial may have helped prevent this. Dig girls, dig!
A neighboring fire department lost one of their own last night. Details are unavailable, but it appears that the young man was working on a wildland fire when he stopped and got outside the deuce for some reason (possible vehicle or pump problems). The truck apparently rolled over him and he...
I stopped by my local salvage yard today and noticed things looked a little different since I was there last. A fire recently cleared out all the underbrush and it made venturing around a little easier. I snapped a few photos of the interesting stuff for you guys. Who knows what the 8x8 is...
Had the first flat on the Oshkosh. It was during a fire, so didn't bother to stop until the fire was out. The beadlock worked great, but the tire was trashed when we changed it. Two of us changed it in the field with basic hand tools and a 3/4" impact.
Do you want to view a photo gallery showing various options and configurations of super singles? I posted a collection of various photos which show different deuces with different combinations of rims and tires. These have been collected from members on this board and other spots around the...
I just want to say how cool it is to log onto the forum and see 50+ members and guests online on a regular basis. That is amazing. Way to go Steelsoldiers!
Has anyone experienced a failed torque bar on the rear suspension? I have some showing some wear, and was thinking about making a preemptive strike. Any tips on rebuilding or who to call for replacement?
