I made the swap over the Hummer radials and 12-bolt wheels this weekend. I elected to keep the wheels stock (not recenter) and used 2" spacers on the hubs to counter the extreme backspacing. A little fender trim with the plasma and I was good to go! The tires help out greatly on the gearing...
I have been interested in adding some lockers for quite some time. Now that I have the lockers, a little work is in store. Can you guess what application these two lockers are for?
Now I know why a man needs two wreckers. The main hydraulic cylinder was leaking on the M819. The M816 was used to raise the boom so the cylinder could be removed and repaired. These wreckers are handy!
I like to look over the recently discussed topics on the mainpage. After clicking on a topic and reading it, I hit the back button to return to the mainpage and look for another topic. Now when I return, the page is not refreshed like it used to be and I get day old topics. Has something...
I got the M1008 running today. It is nice to have progress every once in a while.
The camo pattern looks different from others I have seen. What is it?
To follow up on some of the recent discussion regarding different size towbars, I took a few pics today comparing my medium and large bar. I believe the medium is rated for about 40,000#.
Various adapters are also shown for the medium towbar (3/4" and 1" pins). The large bar uses 1.5" pins.
I'm looking for info on the M172A1 trailer and can't access the manual through LOGSA and didn't see it here on the site. Does anyone have a copy of 9-2330-211-14&P?
A fuel pump went out in the Dodge, so a little towing was in order. It is amazing how a deuce can make a 1 ton 4x4 dually look so little!
I need to fab up some towbar mounts for future recoveries.
Saturday was a fun day. After some serious horse trading, I brought a M819 home. It seems to be in decent shape with only a few repairs necessary. A 5 tonner with chrome hubcaps and lugnut covers, yikes! I towed it to be on the safe side. The M816 was a bit sluggish with the M819 in tow...
I have been running Michelin 11R20 XL tires on my deuce in dual configuration and have been very pleased with their performance. Today, I got a wild idea to swap out the 11R20s in the front for 14.5R20s on M35A3 wheels. Tire diameter is the same and I thought the wider tire in the front might...
My neighbor is looking to sell, trade, or part out a M819 Tractor Wrecker. It actually runs good, but eeds paint, glass and a few small repairs. I haven't got any pics yet, but I will. He is contemplating removing the crane assembly and selling it. Anyone need one?
I was searching for some information on the M35A3 and ran across this picture. It does a good job of showing the size difference between the A3 and an A2 five ton.
Found this on www.globalsecurity.org when looking for info on 5 tons...
The nondirectional cross country (NDCC) tire design on the M939 basic truck was engineered for cross-country applications prior to World War II. Changes in vehicle speeds, road construction, mission requirements, as well as...
I am interested in adding lockers to a few of my trucks. I like the idea of the ARB air locker for the 2.5 ton, especially in the front axles. I think Detroit's would be good in the rear, and have also heard several guys just weld up the diffs like a spool on 2.5 tons.
What about welding a...
I am looking into getting a M819 wrecker. Juding by the -10, key differences on the M819 vs M816 are the 5th wheel, longer wheelbase, longer crane length, 12.00x20 tires, and lack of rear winch. Are there any other key differences to take into consideration?
Does anyone know if there were...
I am interested in a HET tire at Fort Carson. Is anybody buying anything there this month or live nearby who could pick this up for me?
