Thanks guys! ....I don't really see why it's needed, all the hardware in the kit came in separate little manila envelopes. Maybe to keep spare connectors or other radio stuff not included in this kit?
Jon
I still wouldn't mess with the pressure plate adjustments..... Because that's still doing the same thing as adjusting the external linkages: Changing the relative position of the throwout bearing to the pedal. I would rather assume that the factory got it right, and the linkages are wrong on...
Yeah mine appears to be an exception.... I remember that Bjorn's Cranetruck also ran with the needle straight up but most seem to run on the cold side. It would be interesting to check the accuracy of the thermostats and gauges / senders.....
I would start it up right there in the can before I pulled my running engine.... You just never know. I bought a "brand new" looking transfer case, in a crate with fresh paint and tags on it, rebuilt at Tooele and it was complete junk. Noisy and popped out of gear the moment I drove off...
Hi Group,
Can someone tell me what this cotton bag is for? It was included in the CUCV antenna mount kit I recently bought for my Blazer to fill empty holes where a mount had been. The bag is listed in the kit contents sheet but it's use is not mentioned in the installation instructions. I...
Mine runs between 190-205. Closer to 190 around town and up to 205 at speed or on grades. The radiator is often just warm because it does it's job well. It gets too hot to touch in the summer. I like that the gauge needle is pointing just about straight up at operating temperature (same with...
I don't mind this thread.... Better to learn the truth before someone is in the hospital for "chemical pneumonia" after breathing compressor oil fired deuce exhaust. Because to me, even a small risk is too high. I've been poisoned before, I was sick for months with lead poisoning back in 1996...
Yup. And every 30-90 days someone shows up with a "Total Brake Failure" thread. Nothing mechanical on an M813 was designed to go 75, so everything must be re-engineered to do so.... Engine, transmission, transfer, axles, brakes.
I think it would be fun to do, if I had deep pockets and not 50...
That SUCKS! aua
I wouldn't mess with the adjustments on the pressure plate, it should be pre-adjusted from the factory and never need to be touched. And since the old pressure plate was exhibiting this same behavior, I think we can rule that out. But obviously something is wrong....
Since...
They don't actually.... My Detroit 6-71N red lines at 2100, but because every downward stroke of the piston is a power stroke (as opposed to every other stroke on a 4-cycle engine) my Detroit SOUNDS like it's doing 4200!
I agree. Our annual Tower Park convoy is 400 miles each way, and by the time it's done I don't want to drive the truck until the next year.... And I'm hardened to the discomforts like Kenny. Four times a year? No way.
What?! GL-1 wouldn't do THAT, would it?
Grinding 4th is a common problem in these transmissions as they wear..... My old transmission didn't do this, the 'new' one does. Just be more patient when shifting 3rd-4th. The synchros are probably a bit worn, you can prolong the life of the trans by matching the speed closer.
I wouldn't...
This is what I think it is. Have you got it to work yet? ....I'd try swapping out components, starting with the AM-1780. These have occasionally been found defective when taken brand new from a previously unopened box.
Jon
The flywheel looks about the same as most that I have seen in deuces.... I don't think that's too much wear, the teeth are supposed to have some bevel shape to them.
The starter looks worse than most I have seen, but I wouldn't have guessed that it wouldn't work. Was it grinding when it tried...
It's an aftermarket kit made by Memphis Equipment to manually engage the front axle. Search for REB Shifter and you'll find lots of info about it...
Well I guess it's good that they did crappy welds, it will make it much easier to remove the junk from the frame. Maybe the welds are so bad...
Yeah, looks like the welding gun had diarrhea! :-)
Glad you got it though, I'm going to get my gasser going soon... What do you plan to do with it?
Jon
The brushes were worn down? Sheesh, you'd think it would take 20,000 hours of running to do that. I'd like to see pics since I don't plan on cutting mine open any time soon...
