Right and wrong way to start a deuce

Chill Out Man!!!! DH...I believe I was pretty clear on what PS article to read and the discussion continued when questions arose from the OP about that article. (I even provided a link to the download) I think you might be a bit hypercritical here and to be honest it is winter time and...

    Max Deuce Speed

The sad truth in my case is that I have driven so much in my deuce that I drive my Suburban the SAME SPEEDS!!!! I look down and I am crusing at 52, maybe 50, sometimes 48 on a level, clear, straight, dry, nice, highway. JJJJEEEEESSSSSHHHH!!!! I figure it is patterned learning where my...

    Max Deuce Speed

There is a huge difference in operator attitude when the operator also is the OWNER The average military driver did not have to replace engines and deal with the results of driving the multifuel too hard. That leads to an attitude of "what do I care". I drive my deuce at 52 mph at 2200+/-...

Right and wrong way to start a deuce

I like the spin ons because I can change the filters with nary a drop of spilled oil. There is nothing quite as dirty as dirty Diesel Oil........ I hope that everyone understands that I am simply advocating your treating your deuce with respect and understanding that the technology, although...

Right and wrong way to start a deuce

It varies as to how long oil pressure rises. The engine design is for the oil to drain to the sump when you shut down including the filters. When you start up, even once the gauge shows pressure it will take a few more seconds for absolutely everything to get lubed up nicely. The reason...

Right and wrong way to start a deuce

The check for a hydrostatic lock os not for fuel alone. Coolant can gather in a cylinder and if the others fire, it will break things quickly if the engine starts. That is why you do a hydrostatic test on a cold start. I use the throttle cable, no ether and the manifold heater in cold...

    M1009 info needed

The bracket is to keep the end of the starter from "bouncing" and has only one attachment to the block and one to the starter. In TM9-2320-289-20P it is referred to in FIG 32 item 5. I am not sure and will check in the morning, but it looks very similiar to the bracket on a gas engine...

Right and wrong way to start a deuce

You should do a hydrostatic test when you first start up. Pull the engine stop all the way out. Turn on the power and crank for a couple of seconds to be sure you have not got a combustion chamber full of uncompressable liquid. If it turns over fine stop as you are. Push the stop engine...

Change CUCV Heater core AND radiator?

Definitely worth getting things flushed if the outsides are not all corroded. The heater core is a pain to change but not impossible. It is easy to start changing parts and some are better to change than others, but if you have a local radiator shop you trust have them flush it all and see...

Possible to use 9.00-20 tubes for 11.00-20 tires?

The tube will eventually tear at a seam due to the over stretching of the rubber in the tire. Don't forget that heat is also a factor in a tire. I will be honest and say that for the cost of the right tubes, and the cost of either money, or time and trouble for changing tires I would put...

    towing/recovery charges

CSM....absolutely on target as far as the trespassing issue. It is easy to get caught up in the moment that you have a recovery and neglect to observe the essential rules. Trespassing is trespassing. Around here there is a lot of state land and there are strict rules about what types of...

loud grinding type noise when making sharp turns

No Doubt that all ideas posted here to help out are good ones and I was only answering Spoon's specific question as to the reason for pulling a spline cap on the front axle. RL

loud grinding type noise when making sharp turns

Taking the spline cap off stops the axle from turning. If the grinding is your axle this would verify that. This is merely a step in the diagnostic process of eliminating components until you figure out what the source of the grinding is. RL

    towing/recovery charges

I agree and am in the same situation as WreckerMan. I know my insurance is not valid for anything outside of what I am licensed for a.k.a. Historical. It is one thing to pull a friend out of a situation, but comepletely another when you ask for money. I like my cheap insurance and cheap...
